Halliwell, Elizabeth (Betty)
HALLIWELL, Elizabeth Anne (Betty) (nee Henderson) Passed away peacefully on
December 3, 2006. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58
years, Dr. David Halliwell, her four children Margaret (Mike) Banner of
Sooke; John of Victoria; Barbara (Andrew) Chen of Hong Kong, and Mary
(Bernie) Halliwell-Cyr of Ottawa, her adored grandchildren Stephanie, Kevin
and Matthew Banner, and Alex and Elie Chen, and by many nieces, nephews and
friends across Canada. Betty was the elder of two children born in Winnipeg
to Scottish immigrants Bill and Helen Henderson. From a young age Betty
wanted to be a nurse, and to raise the tuition she worked as a governess for
five years. In 1944, she received her RN from the Winnipeg General Hospital,
and remained an active member of the alumnae. In 1948, Betty married Dave
Halliwell and moved with him to Kenora, Ontario where Dave had a thriving
general practice. They were happy and devoted to each other as they traveled
through life together. A private man with a vivacious social wife, Dave was
often dragged into life by Betty. Dave had always planned to study
ophthalmology, so in 1966 the family moved to Winnipeg where he attended the
University of Manitoba. After completing his studies in 1969, he and Betty
relocated to Victoria, BC to open his new practice. Family, friends, the
church, bridge, volunteering, gardening and golf were all important parts of
Betty's life. Dave and Betty loved to travel to places around the world to
visit family and friends. Known affectionately as "lead-foot Betty " by her
children, she drove the family across the North American continent and
places in between. Betty and Dave were lifelong Christians, and were
actively involved with their church in the communities in which they lived.
Betty's vivacious and kind manner, and her humour and positive approach to
life enabled her to form many lasting friendships. Her unconditional love
and support of family and friends is her great legacy. Betty read the Bible
every day and often said "When I die do not grieve for me for I am going
Home. " Please join the family for a celebration of a life well lived. Betty
will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

driven more than 1,000,000 accident-free miles, and retired in 1983. For a
number of years he conducted bus tours of tourists each summer through
Butchart Gardens. He was an avid gardener and his knowledge of the flowers,
shrubs and trees, together with his sense of humour, made him a favourite of
both the tourists and staff at the gardens. This led to his being selected
to mentor the new seasonal drivers hired each summer, many of them
university students. After Ron's retirement, he and Alice spent three months
yearly in their condo in Hawaii, where Ron played golf with a fluctuating
group of snowbird golfers. He was a member of the Elks for a number of

Walton, Rennie
CHANGE IN VENUE WALTON, Rennie Born February 24, 1915, passed away with
dignity and grace on October 17, 2006. Rennie was lots of fun and a good
sport, enjoying the company of her many friends such as those at the
Camosack Manor, her K-60 Club, her shuffle board club and many other
organizations to which she belonged. Rennie was a child of English
immigrants who, with the lure of cheap land in the infamous Palliser
Triangle of Alberta, found the promise of Canada not all they had been lead
to expect. As a child, Rennie lived with her parents and two brothers in a
two room poorly insulated shack where it was not uncommon on a winter's morn
to hack through two inches of ice in the water bucket. Her later teenage
life saw the hardships of the great depression, the lessons of which had a
profound effect on her attitude towards the husbanding of financial
resources. Tom, then a corporal in the Ordinance Corps, met her in Edmonton
during WW II where they married. After the war Rennie and Tom spent many
years of their life in Saskatchewan where Tom was in the car business and
later worked for the federal government there and in Manitoba and PEI.
During that time, Rennie clerked in the jewelry department of various
stores. Tom died in 1979 shortly after they retired to Victoria. Rennie
leaves behind her sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Diana and Tom and
Michelle, 5 grandchildren, Scott (Evita), Kirsten (Mike), Ross, Kelsey and
Robyn, and 2 great grandchildren, Hunter and Houston, her special cousin
Lorene Smith as well as her great friend, Mildred Sawyer. Her family invites
you to a celebration of Rennie's life on Sunday, December 10th, 2006 from

times of a wonderful and caring person. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
