GREEN, Marguerite Victoria Born in Osborne, Nova Scotia on September 3,
1921. Passed away in Hospice on December 8, 2006 after a long and courageous
battle with cancer. Marguerite will live forever in the hearts of her
husband of 61 years, Kent; daughter Cherie Conrad (Duncan); sons, Barrie,
Rick (Denise) and Keith Patrick (Mary); grandchildren Erin Hill (Phil),
Kelly Conrad and Scott Conrad; great granddaughters Kalia and Aria Hill;
sisters Elaine Conrad (Charles), Marie Conrad and Virginia Carter; brother
Mac Harding (Ellen); brother-in-law Murray Green (Ruth); and many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Jim Harding (Joie) and her
daughterin-law Noreen. Marguerite's passion for music, warm and
compassionate heart, and ready smile drew people to her wherever she went
and resulted in friendships that provided laughter and support through the
last months of her life, including those with her adored and faithful friend
Janet Hamilton; Brock Fraser and family; Doreen Alton; and her adopted"
musical children Katherine Hedlund, David Brown, Helena Cavan and Timmy and
Nikki Chooi. Marguerite shared a musical bond and special relationship with
her niece and namesake, Marguerite Trudean (Trudi) Conrad, and also took
great interest in the musical careers of her niece Angela Carter, nephew
David Conrad and great-niece Tegan Peemoeller. Marguerite's exceptional
musical talent was evident from the age of three, and she was a featured
performer in her first recital at the age of four. She graduated from the
Royal School of Music (now the Royal Conservatory of Music). Kent and
Marguerite were married in 1945 and raised their children in Calgary, Banff
and finally Southern California, where Marguerite became a talented piano
teacher whose students won numerous prestigious awards. Marguerite taught a
love of music in addition to theory and dynamics, and several of her
students made music their profession. Many more kept classical music as an
integral part of their adult lives and kept in touch with Mrs. Green" until
the end of her life. Although Marguerite officially retired in the early
1980's when she and Kent left California, students needing her unique
talents continued to find their way to her in Bellingham and, later,
Victoria. Marguerite was an affectionate and attentive mother to her four
children, and maintained a welcoming home. She was small but mighty, always
there when needed by friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew
her. The family is profoundly grateful to the doctors, nurses, volunteers
and support staff at Victoria Hospice, whose compassionate, affectionate and
respectful care eased Marguerite's final weeks. Our gratitude also to the
staff at The Cedars for their support and many acts of kindness over the
last three years. And finally, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tracy Mihalynuk, whom
Marguerite considered both doctor and friend. A Memorial Service will be
held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 16 at the Gardiner Hall, Oak Bay
United Church, 1355 Mitchell Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations to Victoria Hospice in Marguerite's memory. 324069
