BAINES, Bruce Taylor Passed away in Victoria on December 19, 2006. He was
born in Victoria on August 21, 1927. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of
49 years, Ann; daughter, Susan (Eric Holden); sons, Murray and Brian (Brandy
Baines); grandchildren, Sam, Alyssa, Hilary, Robbie and Cooper;
sister-in-law, Dorothy Lawson and many extended family and friends. Bruce
was a professional painter and long time member of I.U.P.A.T. He worked at
and retired from the Dockyard. He was a member of the Masonic Order, Aurora
Lodge AF & AM No. 165 B.C.R. as well as the Gizeh Shrine and Gizeh Shrine
Clown Unit. He was also past patron of Queen City Chapter No. 5 Order of the
Eastern Star. Visitation will be held at MCCALL BROS., Johnson & Vancouver
Streets, on Friday, December 22, 2006 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. A Memorial
Service will be celebrated at Gordon Head United Church, 4201 Tyndall Avenue
on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Victoria Hospice, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, B.C. V8R 1J8.

BARRETT, Ronald Joseph 1926 2006 Married to Joan, with one daughter Anne,
and one grandson Jeffrey. Ron was born in London he served in the British
army in the Far East at the end of World War II. He moved with his family to
Swansea, South Wales where his daughter was born, and worked at Swansea
University as an assistant lecturer. The family emigrated to Canada in 1974,
settling in Surrey and teaching at BCIT. After retirement they moved to
Sidney, they spent a happy retirement. A man of many talents a devoted
father, a patient instructor, a builder of steam trains, and many other
models, a radio amateur, and an amateur artist who specialized in medieval
prints. When younger a keen cyclist and with Joan they cycled many of the
mountain ranges in Europe. After 51 years of wonderful marriage he will be
sadly missed. Funeral service will be at First Memorial Funeral Services,
4725 Falaise Drive on Friday December 29, 2006 at 2pm. No flowers please,
but donations to either Saanich Peninsula Hospital or the Heart & Stroke
Foundation would be welcome. 326073

BLUNT, Freda Noella (Wavell) Freda passed away peacefully on December 20th,
2006 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Freda was born in Duncan
Hospital, raised and educated in Lake Cowichan. In May of 1950 she married
the love of her life Gerald Blunt and together they raised their family of
four children in Youbou. Following Gerry's retirement from Youbou Sawmill
and Freda's retirement from School District 66 where she had worked as a
custodian at the high school and Palsson Elementary School for many years,
they moved to Gabriola Island. After eight years they moved to Parksville,
where they enjoyed their new home and garden. Mom's caring and nurturing
ways will always be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
Freda was predeceased by her parents Fred (1976) and Noella (1990) Wavell,
sister Hazel (1995) and beloved husband Gerry in 2005. Freda is survived by
her three daughters and one son: Diane, Lorraine (Jeff), Ken (Kathy) and
June (Kevin); her five grandchildren Nicole, Warren and Brent and Jana (Dan)
and Ali; her two great grandsons Michael and Andrew. Also survived are
sisters Yvonne and her two daughters, two nephews, and cousins in Ontario
and England. There will be a Celebration of Freda's life on Saturday,
December 30th, at 11am at First Memorial Funeral Services, 375 Brae Road

COELL, Ronald Hazlitt LCDR (ret) KStJ, CD Ron passed away on the evening of
December 20 at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Born in Vancouver in 1928, he was the
son of Bill and Nora (Hazlitt) Coell. After high school, Ron joined the
merchant navy and in 1951 the Canadian Navy in which he served for 23 years
on both Atlantic and Pacific Coasts. Following his naval career, Ron joined
Emergency Measures (Nova Scotia) and retired as Director. Ron's extensive
volunteer work ranged from Scout Master to Chief Commissioner of St. John
Ambulance for which he was awarded Knight. His love of the sea included
several transatlantic crossings as skipper of the naval yacht Pickle and the
purchase of Westward Ho after moving back to the West Coast with Sue in
1994. His parents, his sister Pat and brother Jack predeceased Ron. He is
survived by his wife Sue, son Walter (Terre) and cherished granddaughter
Emma. They will miss him greatly. A memorial service and reception will be
held at First Memorial Chapel, 4728 Falaise Drive in Saanich on Thursday,
Dec. 28th at 2PM. The family members wish to thank the staff of Richmond
Unit, Glengarry Hospital for their kind efforts in past months. Flowers are
gratefully declined. Donations to the Mustard Seed Food Bank or a charity of

McPHIE, Cecelia Marie Cecelia Marie McPhie, died peacefully, on Wednesday,
December 13, 2006, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, as a result of post
surgical complications. She was born Cecelia Webb, on December 8, 1923 in
Victoria, BC. Cecelia attended St. Anne's Academy in Victoria. During World
War II she worked as a clerk for the RCAF where she met a young airman,
Robert McPhie, from Pidgeon Lake, Alberta. Cecelia and Robert were wed at
St. Andrews Cathedral in Victoria, on Valentine's Day, 1946. Robert
continued his career in the air force and the couple enjoyed postings in
Edmonton, Patricia Bay, Jericho Beach, Trenton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Goose Bay,
and three years in France. In the mid-Sixties, Cecelia and Robert returned
to civilian life and settled in Sidney, BC. In the early 1990's the couple
moved to Parksville, where they remained until Robert's death on May 23,
2000. Cecelia moved to Nanaimo and for the last several years resided at
Long Lake Chateau and eventually the Nanaimo Seniors Village. Cecelia will
be sadly missed by her five daughters and sons-in-law; Gail and Jim Guild of
Abu Dhabi, UAE, (previously of Burlington Ontario); Sandra and Steve Parks
of Surrey, BC; Roberta and Gordon Mebs of Sherwood Park, Alberta; Bonnie and
Al Schnitter of Nanaimo and Barbara and Stephen McNicholls of Nanaimo.
Cecelia is also survived by ten grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. A
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11:00 am at the
Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembly Road, Parksville, BC. In lieu of
flowers, Cecelia's wish was for donations to be sent to the St. Vincent De
Paul Society, at: St. Vincent de Paul Centre, Administration Office, 101-831

MICHELSEN, Eleanor Passed away peacefully on December 21, 2006. She will be

NICOL, Richard Allan (Retired Squadron Leader, Royal Canadian Air Force &
Retired Sergeant at Arms, BC Legislature, 1985 to 1995) Born October 4th,
1924 in Calgary, Alberta Passed away peacefully December 21st, 2006 in
Victoria, British Columbia. Richard Nicol, dearly beloved husband of the
late Jean (nee: Blissett). Loving father of Lorraine Buchan (Robert), Marian
Mullett (Mel), Steve Nicol (Linda) and Robert Nicol (Tammy). Fondly
remembered by his 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Richard will
be sadly missed by his 2 sisters, Betty Sewell (Tom) and Velva Wells; his
companion of 5 years, Lil Hall, his relatives and many friends. A Funeral
Service will be held at Sands of Colwood, 317 Goldstream Avenue, Colwood, BC

SEELEY, Gladys A. Gladys A. Seeley (nee Olson), was born January 5, 1923 in
Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mom lived life to the fullest and was surrounded by
family when she passed away peacefully on December 21, 2006. She was
predeceased by her loving husband John and daughters Karen Elizabeth and
Lynda Kathleen. Family was everything to Mom. She is lovingly remembered by
Terry Weber (Janice), Doug (Bonnie), Roland Bailey (Ferne), Susan (Charles),
Gayle (Don), Philip (Carol); her grandchildren Michael (Nat), Kathryn
(Nick), Selina (Devin), Christopher, Kim, Jennifer, Darren (Tana),
Jenna-Marie, David, Candice, Shannon, Justin, Meagen and Kyle; great
grandchildren Brandon, Kirsten, Jonas and Zackary; brother Wilfred (Helen),
sister Ruth (Richard), brother-in-law Ben and many family members and
friends. Gladys was also predeceased by her sisters Doris, Ethel and Mabel
and brother Gordon. A graveside service will be held at Royal Oak Burial
Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 11:00
am with Reverend Steven Swift officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
