DUMESNIL, Alfred Leon (Lee) Ponteix, Saskatchewan, November 2, 1937
Victoria, BC, April 1, 2007 Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed
away with his family by his side at RJH. He leaves his loving wife of 46
years, Rose and his children, Joe (Louise), Gene (Nancy), Rich (Tammy),
Angele (Scott), Sue (Greg) and his grandchildren, Chantelle, Adrian,
Rebecca, Michael, Patrice, Carson, Janene and Emily, who brought much joy to
his life. Lee and Rose met in 1955 at the Colwood Community Hall where Rose
was singing. They fell in love and married April 7, 1961 in Victoria and
raised their children in Vic West until they moved to Beecher Bay in East
Sooke. Lee worked for C. J. McDowell Plumbing and Heating for 20 years as an
Oil Burner Mechanic and started his own company, Lee's Heating Ltd in 1973.
He retired in 1986 at which time his sons continued in his footsteps. An
accomplished musician, Lee played violin, mandolin, saxophone and his
beloved Gretsch guitar. He and Rose, with their love of each other and
music, later formed their band, The Chapparells, and played with various
band members over the years in and around Vancouver Island. With his
infinite patience, he shared his musical talents with his children who later
joined the band. He was known to many of Victoria's musicians and could be
found jamming it up" with his boys around town. He loved to be out on his
boat, the Dewi Saint, with Rose and the kids, fishing and hunting for crab.
Lee and Rose also enjoyed many hunting trips up north. Lee was a loyal and
loving friend who never failed to arrive with help when needed. His
beautiful blue eyes and shining smile, combined with his joy of joke telling
endeared him to all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at
the Esquimalt Legion, 622 Admirals Road, Victoria, on April 13, 2007 at 7
