ZANNET, Paul March 27th, 1925 May 15th, 2007 Victoria's Godfather of Country
Music" passed away peacefully on Tuesday only 16 months after the passing of
his dear wife, Doreen. Paul, called Podder by his family, could fix anything
except his tired worn-out heart. He leaves behind his loving family,
daughters Ann Merriman (Steve), Arlene Leier (Les), Adelle Hatch (Wayne),
granddaughters Kelly Heintz (Pat), Chelsea Leier (Mike), Holly and Heidi
Hatch, as well as his great grandsons Aidan and Evan. Paul's mission in life
was to have fun and to keep everyone laughing. Born in Mundare, Alberta, as
one of 13 children, Paul proved to be an incorrigible rascal at an early age
while growing up on the family farm near Vernon. In 1944 he moved to
Vancouver to apprentice as a mechanic, where he met Doreen and the fireworks
began. Victoria was a dull little town that needed to be livened up, so in
1952, Paul moved his family there to establish Washer Parts and Service.
With business booming and life on Acton Street always a party, Paul needed
another project. Ten years later, he bought property that he called The Wee
Ponderosa" and country music became his passion. All were welcomed at the
barn to play music, dance and sing. As a successful entrepreneur and
businessman, Paul enjoyed fishing, jam sessions, Pendleton rodeos, up-island
camper trips, baking, pets Cisco and Huxley, his farm, and laughing with
friends and family. Always humorous, inventive, generous and kind to all, he
will be deeply missed because Paul is now goin' south to take rhumba
lessons". Grateful thanks to Dr. Amerigo Sparanese and to all of Paul's
friends who kept his life filled with fun adventures. A celebration of
Paul's life will be held on Sunday, June 3rd at Saanich Fairgrounds Main
Hall, 1528 Stelly's Cross Road at 11:00am. No flowers by request. 370373
