BRAKE, Edward Lockyer May 28, 1937 June 28 2007 It is with deep sadness that
the family announces the passing of Edward Lockyer Brake at the age of 70.
Formally of Trout River, Newfoundland. Predeceased by his son Jim on June
13, 1997, mother and father Irene and Clyde Brake of Trout River, sister
Romaine Crocker of Trout River. Survived by his loving wife Brada of 45 yrs.
Loving father of Millicent (Jim), sons Wayne, Aubrey (Jackie). Loving
grandfather of 9 grandchildren, also survived by two brothers Kevin (Ona),
Lionel (Eileen) and numerous relatives and friends in Newfoundland. Please

DeSILVA, Gail (Gayle) Passed away July 2, 2007. Born in Victoria, 1935.
Predeceased by her parents, Florence and William Calder. She is survived by
her best friend and husband Wilbur, a cousin in Victoria and relatives in
England. After teaching in Terrace, The Yukon and Edmonton, Gail taught at
Craigflower Elementary from 1959-1963 and Colquitz Jr. Secondary from
1963-1985. At Gail's request, there will be no service. Friends, if they
wish, may make a donation in Gail's memory to the charity of their choice.

DOWNEY, Patrick William (Dad/Poppa) Born to Charles William and Leona Marie
Downey October 9, 1941 in Copiague, New York. Patrick William Downey passed
away June 17th 2007. Poppa was loved by his large family (Charles,
Catherine, Josephine) children (Sean, Michael and Aja) (Anne-Marie, Sean)
and grandchildren (Jaime, Bryce and Logan). Patrick was a devoted disciple
and teacher of Reverend Mother Hamilton's teachings. Mother made Patrick
Minister and center leader in Victoria in 1987.Patrick worked and
volunteered in social work for over four decades. Patrick saw the light in
everyone he met, and would share his last dime with a perfect stranger. Pat
would help support and guide people in any way he could. He will be forever
loved by his constant canine companions Picasso and Sadie. Pat had the
biggest and most uplifting laughter which was often heard from great
distances. Poppa's joy will live with us for eternity. We love and miss you
Poppa, you are in our hearts forever. We are in mourning of the loss of your
physical presence Poppa, but we are celebrating your spirit in our hearts

ENSTON, Margretta Mary Veronica (nee Clarke) April 14, 1943 June 30, 2007 It
is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of a
beautiful Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend. Margretta
passed away at home on the morning of June 30, 2007 with family by her side.
She battled cancer with dignity and grace and her will to live was strong
and evident to the very end. Margretta is the youngest of ten children, born
in Newtownards, N. Ireland. She had resided in Victoria prior to making a
wonderful life for her husband and children in Honeymoon Bay. For many years
Margretta was very involved in the local community theatre (Kaatza Players),
which she so loved. Her beautiful voice and acting ability touched many
lives in so many ways. Margretta's sense of humor and zest for life kept her
family going through difficult times. The passion for life that she was
blessed with was insurmountable and she passed that on to all she loved and
cared for. She had the most beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye like no
other. She could light up a room in an instant. Margretta will be greatly
missed by all who knew and loved her. Margretta (aka RED) will be in our
hearts forever. Survived by her loving husband Jack and children, Bobby,
Tanya (Terry), Anthony, Glen, Wayne (Marnie), and her adored grandson Joshua
as well as many relatives in N. Ireland, England and Australia. Rest in

GIBSON, Howard Matthew February 3, 1911 July 5, 2007 Howie left this life
and is reunited with his beloved Clara. Howie was born in Victoria, B.C. to
Wilfred and Hannah Gibson. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara, in 1997,
and by his daughter, Lynne Avila, in 2002. He was also predeceased by his
brothers, Wilfred and Gilbert, and his sisters, Isobel Leggett and Ida
Leggett. He is survived, and sadly missed, by his daughter, Pat Dunderdale
and her husband Fred Jones, his grandchildren Terry (Claude) Laframboise,
Steve Dunderdale, Kip (Fran) Webb, Kory Webb, and Kelly (Chuck) Roberts, as
well as his great-grandchildren Jesse, Brody and Haley Laframboise, Cody,
Sabrina and Regina Webb, Levi and Donny Roberts, and great-great-grandson
Harley Roberts. Also surviving him are his sisters, Margaret Fyfe and Jean
(Milt) Schultis, and half-brother, Michael (Dawn) Gibson, as well as many
nieces, nephews and cousins. Howie was known as "Gar " to all of his
grandchildren as well as to many of his friends. He was a sheetmetal worker
by trade, retired in his late fifties, enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting,
travelling, games of crib and Skip-Bo, working in his garden, and having
family and friends stay at his "Greenwood Inn ". He was a great guy and will
be sorely missed. Heartfelt thanks to the staff on West 2 of Jubilee
Hospital, Dr. Larry Smith, his GP Dr. Laing, and special thanks to his niece
Maureen Bull and her husband Adrian, brother Michael, the Juan de Fuca home
support staff, and all of his good neighbours for their loving care of
Howie. He will forever be in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held

LANGTRY, Robert Edward Robert Edward Langtry, beloved husband of Inez
Bernice Helen (Carroll) Langtry. Loving father of Randy, Carroll and
Kathleen. Grandfather to Robert, Chris and Danielle. Brother of Ruth and
Shirley. Peacefully passed away on June 24, 2007 at the age of 81. Robert
was born in Carman, Manitoba. He farmed in the Homewood area until 1968.
During that time he was President of the Manitoba Flying Farmers and a
co-founder of the Dufferin Credit Union. He was active in various other
organizations. Robert moved to Calgary where he worked for the Calgary
Transit. He moved to Victoria in 1974 where he eventually retired from the
Victoria Transit. Robert and Inez retired to Winnipeg and then moved to
Calgary where he spent his remaining years. A Celebration of Robert's Life
was held at PIERSON'S Forest Lawn Chapel, 4121-17 Avenue, SE, Calgary on
Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be

LAST, William Henry September 25, 1926 June 29, 2007 Peacefully in Hospice
with his family by his side. Predeceased by his parents, Alec and Sarah,
brother Bobby, sisters Emma and Margaret. Bill leaves to cherish his memory
his beloved wife Gerry, sons Bruce (Rajinder), Martin (Debi) and Rob
(Debby), grandchildren Adrian (Stacy), Miranda Hutchinson (Chris), great
grandchildren Riley and Van William Last and Kodi and Teegan Hutchinson.
Sisters Dot Purvis (Bob), Hilda Blakey, and Ann Semple (Gordon), many nieces
and nephews. Special friends Sharon and Roland Montague, Connie and Howard
Tooby and Marion Last. Bill had many friends in the tennis and golf
communities in Canada and United States. He touched many lives with his
poetry, wit and way of looking at life. We will miss him, he will be in our
hearts forever. The family is truly grateful to the VIHA Community Nurses
for their care and the wonderful loving care he received in the Palliative
Unit of Saanich Peninsula Hospital. A celebration of Bill's life will be

LOCATELLI, Margaret Isabel (nee Donovan) 88, died peacefully on July 1, 2007
in Parksville, BC. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Carl
Recardo. Carl and Isabel had three daughters who survive them with their
families: Carol Anne, her husband Bob Faulkner, children Tracey and Carl
Faulkner, Robyn and son in-law Michael Thomas and great grandchildren Eden
and Nyssa Thomas; Jeannie Locatelli and her children Rory, Zoe and Miranda
Cobb; Annette Richards and her son Anthony. Isabel was predeceased by all
four of her siblings. Born in Nelson BC, Isabel was raised in Nelson and
Grand Forks, where throughout her childhood, and as a young adult, she
excelled as an athlete in softball and track. Carl and Isabel were married
in Nelson, and raised their girls there until 1960 when they moved to
Victoria. Isabel was an active member of the Uplands Golf and Country Club.
She also loved playing the piano, salmon fishing and gardening. A "Memorial
Tea" will be held at the Uplands Golf Club Wednesday July 11th from 3 5 pm.

MANN, Maria (Ria) Elisabeth December 18, 1934 July 4, 2007 It is with heavy
hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful
mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Though she was taken unexpectedly her
journey continues, and is reunited with Dad once again. Mom always lit up a
room with a smile. During her solo years she experienced many new cultures
and created many new friendships. Ria was predeceased by her husband,
Marinus (Jack) and will be sadly missed by her sons, Robert, Ronald,
Richard, her daughters Kitty (Wayne) Hyslop, Michelle (Thomas) Craigie and
granddaughters, Jaimie, Tracy (Dean) and Kristen. Memorial service will be
held Monday, July 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725

McINTYRE, Norman D. November 22, 1922 July 1, 2007 Norman is survived by
Ellen (Ella), his wife of 62 years, his son Trevor McIntyre (Ruth),
daughters Karen Fettes (George), Gail White (Doug), and the grandchildren he
so cherished, Lesley (Dan) and Alastair Fettes; Ryan and Aaron McIntyre and
Sabrina White. He was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, coming to Canada
during the war to train as a wireless operator and air gunner. During the
war he served in the New Zealand Army and Air Force and has regaled his
family over the years with many tales of those experiences. From 1960 until
his retirement in 1987, Norman worked for the City of Calgary, moving to
Victoria in 1996. Always generous with his time, Norman was willing to help
wherever needed, supporting his family and especially his grandchildren in
any of their endeavors. He will be remembered always. The family would like
to thank Dr. Spencer, the staff of Beacon Home Support, Peninsula Health
Unit (Carmel) and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their help in caring

McLEMAN, Katherine Angeline (Kay) (nee Harachka) Beloved Baba passed away in
Victoria, B.C. on July 2, 2007 at the age of 91. She will be greatly missed
by family and many friends. Katherine is predeceased by her son, Barrie
Ankersen; her husband, William McLeman; ex-husband, Erhardt Ankersen; and
son-in-law, Scott Johnson. She is survived by her family, daughter, Karen
Ankersen; son, Donald Ankersen; granddaughters, Angele, Michelle, Donna Mae,
and many other family members too numerous to mention. Gratitude is
expressed by Karen and Angele to the staff and volunteers at Mount St. Mary
Hospital and to Dr. Yue for the care they provided. A celebration of
Katherine's life is to take place on the day she celebrated her birthday,
July 17, 2007 at her daughter's home in Victoria, B.C., 1858 San Pedro
Avenue at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service is to be planned for family and

MCMILLIN, Mary Quietly in the afternoon of June 29, 2007, three months into
her 99th year. Mary was born April 2, 1909, near Bulyea, Saskatchewan, and
is survived by her brother Alfred McMillin of Victoria and four nephews:
Douglas (Salt Spring Island), Ronald (North Vancouver), Ian (Victoria) and
Michael (Slocan Park). Graduating from the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing
in 1941, Mary spent most of her working life at the Jubilee Hospital. She
had taught school in Saskatchewan before moving to Victoria in the early
1930s, when her parents retired from farming. She was a lifelong member of
the Anglican Church. Her cremated remains will be entrusted to Hatley
Memorial Gardens. There will be no public service, at her request. 385726

MILLER, Tyrone George Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1st, 2007
surrounded by his loving family at Victoria Hospice after a courageous
battle with cancer. Ty was born in Victoria on September 18, 1946. He will
be sadly missed by his family his loving wife Robin of 37 years, daughters
Trina (Mike) and Debra (Matt), grandson Jacob and new grandchild due to
arrive in October. He will also be missed by his mother Jenny, his twin
brother Dallas (Elaine), nephews Carson (Ben and Olivia) and Jordan (Erin),
his large extended family and many long times friend. He is predeceased by
his father Hilliard in 1994. Ty recently retired from BC Transit after 28
years of service. His passions in life included his wife, his daughters and
grandchild and his longstanding love of cars and dragracing. He was a member
of the Quarter Milers Car Club and was involved with the Van Isle Dragways.
Ty's family would like to thank his wonderful doctors Dr. Graylene Hargrove,
Dr. Alex Walton and Dr. Jorg Michaels as well as the stall and volunteers at
the Victoria Cancer Clinic and Victoria Hospice. A celebration of his life
will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 pm at First Memorial Funeral

PARKES, Bridget Bay Scott (Jemtland) October 7, 1945 July 2, 2007 Born to
the Rain People of Ocean Falls, BC on October 7, 1945. Bridge" ran through
life at breakneck speed, always wanting to do new, interesting, creative
things and ventures." She loved animals and people of every kind.Bridge" was
passionate about her artwork and drew almost all the houses in Vancouver's
Chinatown. Bridget is predeceased by her natural parents, Arnie Dahli, Helen
Obert and stepfather Emile Obert, cousin Robbie" Scott, and good friend Ted
Smiley. Bridget leaves behind her husband and good friend Bill, their 2 dogs
Kelly and Scruffy and many close relatives and friends. Special thanks to
the Public Health and Homecare nurses in Courtenay, Catherine and Graham
Judd, Cousin Barbara", Pastor Gordon Carter and all her good friends and

PETTINGER, William Duffield (Bill) March 24, 1926 July 03, 2007 Bill passed
away peacefully at home in Tofino, off to join the love of his life Joan,
who passed in 1999. He leaves 2 brothers, Richard and Barry (April),
numerous nieces, nephews and his 3 beloved sons and families Bill Jr. & Gail
(Brooke, Tyler, Angela and Alex), Rick & Laurie (Jahna, Matt, Reed and
Bayne), David & Linda (Kaileigh and Tiara). Born in Vancouver, Bill spent
his early years in Edmonton where he played professional hockey for the
Edmonton Flyers and was recently inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of
Fame. After hockey he took up farming and with Joan, raised his 3 sons. In
1973 Bill and Joan moved to Vancouver Island and settled in Tofino to
co-develop and create Pacific Sands Beach Resort partnered with his brother
Barry. Bill was an outstanding visionary who contributed to the tourism
industry and Tofino throughout his years. Bill & Joan created a wonderful
and lasting legacy which proudly remains family owned and managed by son
David. The many guests and extraordinary staff of over 34 years will greatly
miss Bill's presence. Bill loved life, family and friends and when not
scheming about something new at the resort, he and Joan would be seen
cruising and fishing the coast on the North Quarter" or exploring North
America in his motor home. In later years Bill had an avid and talented
passion for lapidary work and jewelry making, creations that are treasured
by his family and most of the staff at Pacific Sands. Dad, Bill and Poppa to
family, his presence is forever at Sunset Point. We'll remember his
entrepreneurial spirit, generosity, quick wit, kindness and friendship. A
celebration of Bill & Joan's lives will be held in Tofino and Victoria this

STERRIKER, David Alan January 10, 1930 June 19, 2007 It is with tremendous
sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father in Qualicum Beach
at the age of 77. Predeceased by his wife Joan in 1978. Survived by his
children Victoria Griffiths (Steven), John Sterriker and three
grandchildren: Kyle, Brandon, and Ivy. Also leaving behind many more loving
family and friends. After retiring from many years at Onion Lake Logging
(Stoltze) Dave took great pleasure in helping others with his love and
generous heart. Dave also donated to numerous charities; he touched the
hearts of many. All that knew Dave are invited to a Celebration of his Life
to be held at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION (180 Veterans Way) in Qualicum
Beach, BC on Tuesday July 17th, at 1:00 pm, reception to follow. In lieu of

WARD, Irene Rosemary 1919 2007 Granny's gone to Heaven and a loving mother
will be sorely missed. She was born Irene Morley in Big Valley, Alberta. She
and her family moved to Coombs in 1932. In 1939 she married George Ward and
they established themselves actively in the community. Irene was active in
the Agricultural Association, Parent/Teacher Association and Triple C's .
(Irene was predeceased by her husband George in 2001) Proud to be a
Homemaker with a capital H", she and George raised four children (Rusty
(Coke), Sue Bosecker (Glen Newmeyer), Georgia and Terry (Jan). She delighted
in caring for and playing with her eleven grandchildren and fourteen great
grandchildren. Her apple pie was renowned and there were always cookies at
Granny's house. Irene passed peacefully at her home in Coombs on Tues. July
3rd. Loving caregivers Terry & Jan, Sherry, Bonnie, Penny, Christine &
Ursula made it possible for Irene to spend her final years in comfort in her
own home. Thank you. She had a wonderful life and will be lovingly
remembered by family and many friends. Funeral services will be held at
Parksville Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Rd., Parksville on Monday, July
9th at 1:00 p.m. followed by internment in the Cemetery. Fellowship tea to

WILSON, George William Born February 6, 1922 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital,
George passed away peacefully July 3, 2007, after a lengthy battle with
deteriorating health. Predeceased by brother, Ernie; and sister, Florence.
He is survived by wife, Jean, of 63 years; sons, Dale (Sharon), and Deryck;
grandsons, Aaron, Kristofer, Kelsey, and Matthew; and brother, Bob. George
worked at A.P. Slades in his youth followed by a long career at Yarrows
Shipyards. He was know for his tremendous physical strength and work ethic,
outgoing and cheerful demeanour and willingness to help those in need. His
interests included sports, gardening, and a lifelong passion for cars. Above
all, he was a compassionate and caring family man relied on by all for his
unconditional love and support. A special thank you to family physician, Dr.
Wolfgang Wetzer, and the staff of Saanich Peninsula Extended Care for their
professionalism, encouragement, and solace near the end. A celebration of
George's life will take place Monday, July 16, 2007 at 2 pm at First
Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations
