PALMER, Victor Kirk July 3, 1927 July 31, 2007 Dear Dad: Thank you for all
you have done for us. As a child growing up in Nanaimo you developed a
lifelong passion for sailing. You gave us the knowledge and an appreciation
for the sport. We have found over the years that sailing has provided us
with a refuge from the challenges of every day life. Your 46 years of
success in the automobile and real estate business in the Cowichan Valley
gave you the perspective with which to teach us the life skills necessary to
ensure our success in our chosen interests. Your hard work and perseverance
not only set a great example but also gave us opportunities while growing up
that were not available to most kids at the time. Your executive level
involvement with the Green Mountain Ski Resort and the Maple Bay Yacht Club,
over the many years, impressed upon us that there is more to life than just
work and play. Volunteering and getting involved without regard to financial
reward is essential to healthy balance in life. You kept us busy camping,
snow skiing and sailing. You felt that having these interests would keep us
out of trouble in our teen years. You were right again. What you also
accomplished was ensuring our healthy lifestyles. Your incredible positive
attitude and enthusiasm taught us that life should be lived to the fullest.
That challenges should be met head on. Solutions to problems would show
themselves when a positive attitude and hard work are applied. We loved to
be around you, you made family gatherings fun and interesting. We learned to
focus on your many strengths and ignore your few weaknesses, another life
lesson. So dad it is unfortunate that we did not have the chance to pass
these thoughts on to you before it was too late for you to understand.
Hopefully you still get the paper. We will miss you, we love you, good bye.

PICKERING, Frederic David Jan. 8th, 1947 July 29th, 2007 It is with deep
sadness that we announce that our David left us peacefully after a short
illness to join his father Eric, his oldest brother Bob, and his mother
Dola. David was the middle child of three boys, born in Victoria and moved
as a small child to Ontario and then North Vancouver. He was raised in North
Vancouver. After meeting his best friend, lover and sole mate Bev,
(affectionately called Beav) he settled in Campbell River for the past 28
years. Dave was a very proud family man, a wonderful husband and a man of
class. He enjoyed cooking for his family and specialized in seafood. He
loved hard work and the challenge of his job as a carpenter in heavy
construction; he earned the respect of his fellow workers. His passion and
dream was his Harley followed by his Turbo and Quad. He loved the outdoors
camping, hunting, and fishing. He always won the bets by catching the
biggest, the most and the first. His biggest wish came true when he took his
true love Bev and his Harley to the Yukon in 2006. Sadly missed by son Dave
Jr., grandson Jamie, and son Ryan all of Ontario. One brother Stephen of
Vancouver and also Aunt Ruthie of Victoria, who will miss his beautiful blue
eyes, Aunt Cookie & Uncle Ted from Burlington, Washington, and many nieces,
nephews and many friends. Special thanks to Doctors and Nurses of the third
floor in the Campbell River Hospital and to all the wonderful friends for
their help and support. Please join us in the Celebration of David's life at
the Campbell River Eagles Hall, 1999 14th Ave, Campbell River, B.C. on
Thursday, August 9th and 11:00AM. No flowers by request but donations may be

POSTANS, Elsie Irene Passed away on July 16, 2007, in Victoria. Predeceased
by her loving husband of nearly 58 years, Ernest, in 1997, and her brother,
Albert E. Dross, in 1996, she leaves her son Laurie, daughter-in-law Nell,
and grandson James, all of Victoria; grandson Michael of Edmonton, Alberta;
her sister, Anne N. Beavis of Clactonon-Sea, Essex, England; and numerous
other relatives in Quebec, England, and New Zealand. Elsie, who was born in
London, England, on July 3, 1917, lost both her parents at a young age and
was required to support herself from the age of 15. Shortly before the
beginning of the Second World War, she met her future husband, Ernie, a
young constable with the London Metropolitan Police Force; they were married
on November 11, 1939. Their only son, Laurence (Laurie) was born in 1943.
The family emigrated to Canada in 1948; initially residing in Winnipeg, the
family settled in Victoria in 1952, where, apart from intervals of several
years, they have resided ever since. In Canada, Ernie made insurance
adjusting his career until his retirement. Elsie contributed by working in
various secretarial positions, in particular as the engineer's secretary
with the District of Oak Bay during the early 1960's. After Ernie passed
away in 1997, Elsie, always independent, lived on her own in a apartment
until, no longer able to care for herself, she moved to Mount Edwards Court
Care Home, where her warmth and friendly nature and sense of humour won her
many friends during her last years. Remarkably, until the end, she still
kept up a continuous correspondence by letter with her sister Anne, in
England, which had begun nearly 60 years earlier, around the time of her
moving to Canada. A private service will be held Sunday, August 5, at Mount
Edwards Court Care Home. Flowers gratefully declined; instead, donations may
be made in memory of Elsie to the Island Deaf & Hard of Hearing Centre, or
to a charity of your choice. 396230
