GUENETTE, Edna Mary It is with great sadness that we announce the death of
our mother Edna Mary Guenette. Momma was born in England on December 22,
1915 and died on August 16, 2007, in Victoria BC. Beloved wife for 67 years
of our father George Guenette. They remained as much in love as the first
day they met. Beloved mother to Richard, Mary-Jean, David and Joseph.
Beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. Momma was the matriarch of our
family, the heart of our home and she made sure the door of our house was
always open. She loved, encouraged, uplifted and fed everyone. She kept the
kettle boiling and her bible open. Mother set such an example for all of us.
She walked the blind for years. She and dad visited nursing homes and served
cookies and tea and hugs for everyone. They were known as the Huggie Bears.
She and dad delivered meals on wheels and when they were no longer able to
drive they just had everyone into their home. Mother passed away as she
lived her life, giving everything and asking for nothing but that we love
one another without conditions. She loved so many people and so many loved
her. And not to forget mother's humor. Her wit was sharp as a tack and
everyone waited to hear the pearls she would drop in a conversation. Once
dinning out the waiter asked, To what do you attribute the longevity of your
marriage?" Oh" she said, love, love, love and if that doesn't work the
frying pan." Thank you to the nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital who
helped care for momma. She thought of you as her angels and I heard her
thank each one of you when you came into her room. Thank you for your
kindness to all of us and particularly to our dad George. Visitation will be
held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street, on Monday August 27,
between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. We will celebrate her life with a Memorial
Service at St. Matthais Church, 600 Richmond Ave., Victoria, on Tuesday,

MORTIMORE, Peggy Margaret Joan (Peggy) Mortimore, who was a legislative
assistant to NDP MLAs in Victoria for 14 years, died of lung cancer on
August 7. Her career on the caucus staff, 1981-95, spanned the changes from
opposition under Dave Barrett's leadership, to NDP government led by Mike
Harcourt. She was born and baptised Margaret Joan Rigler in Poole, Dorset,
England, where she married Richard George Ernest (Gem") Mortimore, and
served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Women's Division. She is survived by
her husband, their sons John and Michael, and grandchildren Jeremy, Matthew
and Amelia. Peggy died at home under hospice home care, with family members
around her. She and her husband lived in Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto,
Guelph and Edmonton. She held secretarial and executive-assistant jobs,
helping her husband in his transition through years of journalism to
anthropology and university teaching. She worked for Ontario Hansard, the
Ontario Conservative caucus, the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario and the Law
Commission of Canada, and as a secretary to a psychiatrist. We would have
done better if I had stayed in a job and helped her go through to graduate
school," George said. She was better organized and more observant, and she
had more creative common sense. But my ego got in the way, and she wasn't
pushy. She had a sharp eye for political contradictions and stupidities, but
she was tolerant, and she kept a low profile. She liked to read and watch
murder mysteries, but in real life she saved the lives of flies and moths
and spiders and carried them outdoors on bits of paper. Sometimes I called
her `The mocking bird.' She had a cartoonist's vision. She and her mother in
England used to dance around lampooning people's quirks. I found out later
that they called me 'Chewy,' because I chewed gum." At her request there
will be no funeral. 403021

MOYER, Lyle Sanford March 24, 1909 August 15, 2007 At the grand age of 98
years, Lyle died gently and in comfort with his family by his side at Mount
St Mary Hospital in Victoria, BC where he had been a resident for three
years. Predeceased by his wife Agnes and his brothers Keith and Bob, Lyle is
survived by his three children Patricia, Mary Lou, and Gordon, and fondly
remembered by his daughter-in-law Katarzyna, his grandchildren Kamille and
Todd, and all of his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Lyle was born
in Jordan, Ontario where his father was a railroad telegrapher. In 1909,
newborn Lyle went west with his parents Lloyd and Clara living at various
locations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Lloyd serving as a CNR station
agent. In 1916, the family moved to Craik where brothers Keith and Bob were
born. The Craik CNR train station was to be the family home for nearly 20
years. Lyle attended the University of Saskatchewan completing two degrees:
a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in business economics (May 1936), and a
Bachelor of Accounting (May 1937). In July of 1937, he left a chartered
accounting firm in Saskatchewan to join the staff of the Provincial Auditor.
In 1942, Lyle enlisted with the RCAF attaining the rank of Flight
Lieutenant, Air Navigator. Following World War II, he resumed work with the
Provincial Auditor, and in 1946 assisted with setting up the Provincial
Government Budget Bureau becoming one of the three original staff members.
In 1947, he was appointed Chief Accountant for the Saskatchewan Liquor Board
and in 1959 was appointed Chairman and General Manager of the Board serving
in that capacity until his retirement in 1974. During his term as Chairman,
Lyle accepted invitations to travel to England, Scotland, France, Spain,
Italy, Germany, Poland, South Africa, Puerto Rico and Australia where,
accompanied by his wife, he toured enterprises engaged in the production and
distribution of wine, beer, and spirits. He also served as President of the
Canadian Association of Provincial Liquor Commissioners for two terms. Lyle
had many special interests as well. He was a 32nd degree mason, Noble of the
Mystic Shrine, and a member of the Wa Wa Chanters male choir. For ten years
following the war, he was also a Commanding Officer of one of the Regina Air
Cadet Squadrons. His memberships in other associations included the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Regina Branch of the
American Federation of Musicians, and The Board of Stewards of Lakeview
United Church. Among Lyle's hobbies were HAM radio (formerly VE5LW), home
movie making, golf, and music. As a young man, he played in an orchestra in
Craik as well as with the Follies Orchestra at the U. of S. He also played
banjo and saxophone in his own band, Lyle Moyer and his Commodores. Music
was to become his passion in retirement. In Regina, he formed The
Dixielanders in which he played tenor banjo. On moving to Victoria, he
started The Swing Time Trio playing tenor banjo and tenor sax. He went on to
play saxophone in The Senior Serenaders, the Oak Bay Concert Orchestra, and
the Mood Swing Orchestra. To say the least, Lyle lived a full and rewarding
life. A private family gathering was held in his honour. Lyle now rests
beside his wife, Agnes, at Royal Oak Burial Park, Victoria, BC. 401551
