GREENWOOD Samuel James Born: October 15, 1929 Passed Away: January 9, 2008
VE7 SAM Is Silent Key. Sam Greenwood passed away quietly in his sleep early
Wednesday morning. Dad had been hospitalized with a compression fracture in
his spine since a fall in early November. While in hospital care Dad was
diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and was transferred to Evergreen House for
long term care. Born in Blackpool, England, Dad grew up in the seaside
resort town during the Depression and World War II. In his youth Dad was an
avid tinkerer. His interests in radio, photography, and aviation lead to his
choosing the exciting new field of electronics as his career. Dad's National
Service was with the RAF. It was here he was trained in Radar theory,
maintenance, and operation. His tour of duty included being posted to Malaya
for 10 months. He spoke often of this adventure. Following National Service,
Dad returned to Blackpool and over the next few years worked at several
electronic jobs including a stint at a Nuclear Energy Plant as an Instrument
Technician. In 1954 he married Jean Clough. In 1957 our parents, and six
month old Steven emigrated to Canada. After a couple of years working for
Philips Electronics, Dad was hired by the CBC In 1960 as a Transmitter
Technician. These were Dad's happiest working days. He traveled all over the
BC South Coast repairing or installing transmitters for both radio and
television. Dad always looked fondly on his 14 years with the CBC. In 1974
Dad left the CBC to pursue a career as an Electronics Instructor at the
Vancouver Vocational Institute. For the Montreal Olympics in 1976, Dad was
asked to temporarily return to the CBC working for their Olympic Host
Broadcaster unit to help with the groundbreaking Helicopter/Ground Car setup
for the Marathon, Cycling, and Walking races. Dad retired from teaching in
1989. In his retirement Dad and Mom traveled all over the world. Also Dad
enjoyed his hobbies of Ham radio and computers. He was a frequent attendee
of CBC 20 Year Association gatherings and enjoyed his time both with old
friends and new acquaintances. Sam Greenwood is survived by his wife of 54
years, Jean, sons Steven, Ron, Philip (Betsy), and his beloved grandson
Thomas. At our father's request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers

January 5th, 2008 at home with her family nearby. Millie is survived by her
beloved husband Hugh, her children, Bonnie (Joe), Janet, Hugh (Martha),
Allan and Lorna (Rhory) as well as her brother Jack Moret and sister Mavis
Worthington. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, James, Michael, Alayna,
Bill, Connor, Ceilidh and Seamus. Mom and Dad spent 60 wonderful years
together, standing side by side, as they raised their family. She was a kind
and generous soul who passionately supported anything her children or
grandchildren chose to undertake. Millie's heart and home were always open
to anyone who dropped by and if you stayed for a meal you were considered
family. As far as she was concerned her greatest accomplishments were
serving her country in W.W.II as a member of the C.W.A.C. and raising her
wonderful family, both done with great dedication. A memorial service will
take place at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Dr, West Vancouver on
January 19th, 2007 at 2 pm. If you wish, please make donations in Mildred's
memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (BC). To share memories of Mildred,
please visit us at www.mem.com As we are left in our grief, we are comforted
by Mom's words ÃŽThis too shall passÃŽ.

LEECH Lily Margaret December 19, 1911 - January 6, 2008 Born in Bushey,
Hertfordshire, England. Lily fought valiantly to stay in her earthly world
of family, friends, animals, nature, love, laughter, music, and hope. Lily's
spirit was indomitable, but her body grew weary. From close family, she
stepped into the arms of her beloved Leonard. They lived in London and then
Bushey, Lily always a registered nurse, Leon formerly with the Royal Navy,
later joining Kodak. The children had spread their wings and Lily and Leon
did similar, moving to Canada in 1975. Life was busy, interesting, happy,
but short-lived for Leon, who passed away in 1979. Always the optimist,
Lily's life's highlights were many - 30 years of wonderful camaraderie and
success that is Dogwood Pavilion; faraway trips, ones to Vancouver and Gulf
Islands, and the latest short surprise excursions were all special to her.
Family and friends always filled her heart. Entering Dania Manor in 2005,
she fitted perfectly into it's small, social community. Loved for her wit
and warm presence wherever she went and missed for the same. Predeceased by
Leonard, son Douglas, parents, siblings, and many other precious ones.

SMITH Sheila (nee Marshall) Peacefully she left us January 5, 2008, a
sister,
a wife, a mother, an in-law, a friend Sheila was all of these and
cherished her role in our lives. Forever the optimist, Sheila had many
challenges in her too short life of 55 years and faced them with dignity and
humour, but lost the last great battle with cancer. Her family wishes to
thank the many staff at BC Cancer Clinic, Burnaby General Hospital and
Queens Park Hospice for their thoughtful and professional care of our loved
one. The support of her friends, Vicki and Dennis, has been a great comfort
especially as we are still mourning the recent loss of her husband Jim. Her
son Paul, sister Mary and the extended Smith family (Peggy, Dave, Norm,
Hazel, Pat, nephews Brian and Steve, nieces Caitlin and Michelle)
regretfully say good-bye to Sheila and with her traditional optimism we wish
to give her ""two thumbs up"" on her final fishing trip with Jim.

STARK Marvin Nathan, QC (May 6, 1930-January 8, 2008) passed away
unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep at the Louis Brier Home where he
moved last month after suffering serious injuries in a fall on November 2,
2007. Marvin enjoyed long and passionate parallel careers as a lawyer of 50
years and as a Simon Fraser University business law professor. He received
top honours in both his careers. He was appointed a federal Queens Counsel
in 1992 for his long and distinguished legal career, in particular for his
devotion to advancing the business and social interests of native
communities in B.C. and he was appointed a professor emeritus by SFU in
1997, the first time that honour was bestowed on a half-time, assistant
professor. In 2002, he was also honoured with a Queen Elizabeth II Golden
Jubilee Medal for his "outstanding and exemplary" contributions to Canada.
Most importantly, Marvin will be remembered as a warm, loving, kind,
thoughtful and generous husband, father and Zaida to his family, who were
always foremost in his mind and heart. But his generosity of mind and spirit
and his profoundly moral approach to his life extended beyond his family to
everyone he met. Described by one of his grandchildren as a "giving man"
he showered his love of puns and jokes on everyone he met, bringing them
laughter and joy. Marvin is survived by Lois, his wife of 54 years; son
Andrew (Deborah), daughters Patti (Gordon) and Janna (Elliot); grandchildren
Rachel and Zoe Stark, Hamish and Isaac Clark and Talia, Aviva and Julia
Glassman; and special niece Andrea (Peter). His funeral took place on
Thursday, January 10, 2008. The recent outpouring of grief by so many people
from different walks of life, including colleagues, clients, former
students, friends and members of the Jewish and First Nations communities
has reaffirmed for his family how much Marvin was loved by others and what a
positive impact he had on the world. To honour Marvin's life, the family
suggests that donations to the following agencies be considered: VGH and UBC
Hospital Foundation for Dementia Research (Account no. 11-11023000),
Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University and the Sodexho First Nations
Graduate Fellowship at SFU. The family would like to express its deep
gratitude to Dr. Monty Glanzberg, Dr. Howard Feldman, Dr. Margot Genge, Dr.
Sherrie Heyden, Norma Surilla and Ameeh Recilla. To be a teacher was
Marvin's most meaningful role and he did this most significantly by the
example of his life.

WRIGHT John Milton November 6, 1930 January 5, 2008 Known as Milt to friends
and family alike, he passed away peacefully at his home on January 5, 2008.
He will be missed by his daughter Laura, his son David, and daughter-in-law
Glenna, his ex-wife Joan Donaldson, his grandson Christopher Brewin, cousins
Dale and Jeannie, his many nieces and nephews and his dear friend Jackie
MacDonald. Milt's life seemed destined for public consumption. He began
teaching in the early `50's, became a radio operator then moved to
television. 1960 took him to Ottawa where he worked as Design Director for
CBC until taking on the task of Managing Director with the Calgary Allied
Arts Centre. A trip to Australia brought him back to the west coast where he
finished his teaching degree at the University of Victoria in 1973. Belmont
was his first school and he retired some 20 years later from Spectrum in
Victoria. He was justly proud of his accomplishments: his Masters degree,
the many musicals he produced, and most of all the many students he helped
along the way... to many of these he was just ""Uncle Milty"". Retirement
took him to Chilliwack B.C. where he spent the last 9 years with his beloved
Papillon Pal. Milt will be remembered by the many students he taught; by the
many hearts he touched in his life and the many friends he made at
Cottonwood Estates. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
