LEE Dr. David Bruce Lee, MD, a well known, long serving Mission physician
passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Mission Memorial
Hospital at the age of 87. Predeceased by his adored wife Frances in 1994
and his brother Don, he is survived by his loving daughter Karen
(Valentino), son Michael (Joanne), grandchildren Richelle and Adriano and
great-grandchild Darean. Serving with the RCAF, 22 year old flying officer
DB Lee captained a four-engined Liberator assigned to Sqn 120, based at
Kaflavic Iceland, flying 14-16 hour non-stop missions on an anti-sub patrol
over the Atlantic. When a U-boat was sighted or located by radar, F/O Lee
would bring the aircraft down to 50 feet above the waves to drop depth
charges or homing torpedoes to attack the enemy who almost always dived to
avoid attack. Flying so low in all kinds of weather caused the resulting
spray to freeze on the aircraft windshield, obstructing the pilot's view.
Three aircraft from Sqn. 120 were lost in one 10-day period. Graduating with
his medical degree from McGill University in 1952 Dr. Lee came to Mission in
1955 to practice general medicine with his first office on Main Street (now
First Ave.). He also served as Police Surgeon for many years. Bruce Lee
retired in 1986 with a razor sharp memory. He loved to play scrabble,
recalling words generally unknown to others and never missed his regular
bridge nights. With the steady foursome Bruce would enjoy the exercise
circuiting the Mission Golf Course following his errant ball. Dedicated to
his profession he will be remembered by his countless patients and many
friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 18 at
St. Andrew's Church, Grant Street, Mission.

McEACHERN Allan 1926 - 2008 It is with gratitude for a life well-lived that
his family announces the passing of Allan Davis McEachern on January 10,
2008. Predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Gloria, he is survived by his
loving wife Madam Justice Mary Newbury, his daughters Jean Williams
(Michael) and Joanne Evans (John), his grandchildren Bria, Stephen, Jenna,
Laura, Rosalind and Ian, his brother Bruce, his sister Lillian McDonell, and
many nieces and nephews. Allan was the grandson and son of pioneering BC
families who instilled in him a love of "God's country", the magnificent
natural setting of British Columbia and an appreciation of his Scottish
heritage. In his earlier school years he spent the winters in Penticton due
to his asthma but later was able to stay in Vancouver and attend high school
at Kitsilano and Lord Byng, where he made many lifelong friends. He spent
his youth playing team sports (rugby and football) and swimming in the
waters of English Bay, where later in life he spent his leisure time
"crashing around the Bay" in his sailboats Skye I, II, and III. He also
loved the mountains of western Canada and treasured the memory of a summer
spent as fire lookout above Lake Louise. Allan attended UBC and completed
his BA and Bachelor of Law degrees (1950). He practiced law at Russell &
DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) in Vancouver for 28 years before
his appointment as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of BC and later as
Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of BC. Law was his passion. He loved
the collegiality of the profession and firmly believed in the Shakespearean
principle "Strive mightily in court, but eat and drink as friends." All
those he befriended attest to his integrity, humility, energy, intelligence
and sense of humour. He was a superlative mentor to many talented law
students and took great pride in his establishment of the Inns of Court
program. He was a progressive Chief Justice in that he initiated and
encouraged the use of computers by all judges, set up an interactive webpage
and created a Legal Compendium for the public to keep abreast of legal
decisions. Many female lawyers and judges owe much to his efforts to open
the profession to women. In addition to his profession, he co-founded the
Kats Rugby Club and was actively involved with the BC Lions and the CFL for
many years. More recently, he wished to acknowledge the important role UBC
had contributed to his many successes in life, and accepted the Alumni
Association's nomination to run as Chancellor. It was a position he held
with great pride and dignity for almost 6 years. We are blessed for having
known and loved this remarkable man. In keeping with Allan's wishes, there
will be a reception held at a future date. He requested that in lieu of
flowers, donations be made to establish a UBC Law Scholarship for a
deserving student so that he or she might have the opportunities Allan had.

TEATHER Allan On January 9th, 2008, Terry and Andria Teather and their
daughter Natalie lost their beloved son and brother Allan. In losing him we
lost his wonderful smile, his loving heart, his compassionate nature and his
incredible sense of humor. But we have been left with 22 years of warm
memories of those very things. A senseless act took him from us and his
extended family; grandparents Joyce and Allan Teather of Fonthill, Ontario
and Heather Denny of Allanburg, Ontario, as well as aunts, uncles and
cousins across the country. His many friends in Calgary and B.C., especially
Attila, Cole and Steve, his high school buddies, share the pain of this
loss. Allan gave us many things and we will stay strong during this
difficult time in his honor. In his teens he helped his father coach track
for Special Olympics and anyone wishing to honor Allan's memory is
encouraged to make a donation to BC Special Olympics. A celebration of
Allan's life will be held on Friday, January 18th at 1:00 p.m. at the
Columbia-Bowell Funeral Chapel, 219 6th Street, New Westminster, B.C. phone
# 521-4881.
