BOMPAS Gordon Mason "Mate" left us on January 13th, 2008 at the age of 92,
following a brief fight with cancer. He leaves to mourn his dearly loved
wife of 65 years, Gladys, his treasured son, Barry, and his beloved
daughter-in-law, Lin. He will be fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces
Terry Pearson (Debbie), Donna Pearson, Brenda Farrer (Carmen), Gordon Berg
(Michelle), Judy Walker (Jim), and his great-nieces and nephews Kim Lundell
(Scott), Janelle Graw (Karl), Ashley Pearson, Alan Pearson (Lindsie) and
Trevor Pearson (Kathy). Mate lived most of his life in Saskatoon, where he
was a Manager for Eatons for his entire career, save for time in the Royal
Canadian Air Force, serving his country in World War II. Always a dapper
dresser, upon his ""retirement,"" he kept busy working part-time at
Caswell's Men's Store and at his friend, Pete Semko's Greenbryre Golf Club.
He and Gladys moved to B.C. in 1986 and to their present home in White Rock
in 1991. An avid golfer all his life, he played his last game at Coyote
Creek in October. Mate had a good and productive life and was still active
and sharp into his 92nd year. He truly was one of a kind! A celebration of
Mate's life will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20th
at his residence. Friends and neighbours are welcome to join the family to
say ""goodbye.""

BURGESS Beulah Gertrude (Bud). It is with great sadness that we announce the
sudden passing of our beloved Mother on January 13, 2008. Predeceased by her
husband Ron, she is survived by her children Marlene (Kirk), Denis (Kim),
Pam (Al), grandchildren Jason, Michelle, Holly, Jordan, sister lola Little
(George), and many nieces and nephews. Mom was born on the family farm in
Chilliwack on July 15, 1925. When the family moved to New Westminster she
met and married the love of her life, Ron Burgess, and Mom and Dad spent 53
wonderful years together raising their family and travelling everywhere.
After Dad's passing in 1999, Mom continued to live in the family home and
took many fun vacations to her favourite gambling city of Reno. She was
accompanied by her son Denis and her daughter-in-law Kim and they have great
memories of staying up all night playing the one-armed-bandits. . .and
WINNING! Mom loved going to Hawaii and generously took all her family with
her to enjoy the tropical sunsets, happy hour (it's always 5 o'clock
somewhere, right Mom?), and finding good `bargoonees' in the market. She
passed on her love of reading Robert B. Parker novels to her daughters
Marlene and Pam, who she sent on quests to find his latest book so she could
add it to her collection and then pass it on to her good friend Pat to
enjoy. Our Mom's youthful energy belied her age and gave us all something to
strive for and we often wondered and were just a little bit suspicious of
what exactly was in that coffee cup! Mom, we will miss you terribly,
continue to love and remember you forever, and be at peace that you and Dad
are together again, for eternity. We extend an invitation to all family and
friends to attend the Memorial Celebration of Bud's life on Saturday,
January 19, 2008 at 3:30 pm at St. Aidan's Presbyterian Church, 1320 Seventh
Ave. New Westminster. In lieu of flowers donation to the Heart and Stroke
Fund would be appreciated.

McEACHERN Allan 1926 - 2008 It is with gratitude for a life well-lived that
his family announces the passing of Allan Davis McEachern on January 10,
2008. Predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Gloria, he is survived by his
loving wife Madam Justice Mary Newbury, his daughters Jean Williams
(Michael) and Joanne Evans (John), his grandchildren Bria, Stephen, Jenna,
Laura, Rosalind and Ian, his brother Bruce, his sister Lillian McDonell, and
many nieces and nephews. Allan was the grandson and son of pioneering BC
families who instilled in him a love of "God's country", the magnificent
natural setting of British Columbia and an appreciation of his Scottish
heritage. In his earlier school years he spent the winters in Penticton due
to his asthma but later was able to stay in Vancouver and attend high school
at Kitsilano and Lord Byng, where he made many lifelong friends. He spent
his youth playing team sports (rugby and football) and swimming in the
waters of English Bay, where later in life he spent his leisure time
"crashing around the Bay" in his sailboats Skye I, II, and III. He also
loved the mountains of western Canada and treasured the memory of a summer
spent as fire lookout above Lake Louise. Allan attended UBC and completed
his BA and Bachelor of Law degrees (1950). He practiced law at Russell &
DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin) in Vancouver for 28 years before
his appointment as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of BC and later as
Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of BC. Law was his passion. He loved
the collegiality of the profession and firmly believed in the Shakespearean
principle "Strive mightily in court, but eat and drink as friends." All
those he befriended attest to his integrity, humility, energy, intelligence
and sense of humour. He was a superlative mentor to many talented law
students and took great pride in his establishment of the Inns of Court
program. He was a progressive Chief Justice in that he initiated and
encouraged the use of computers by all judges, set up an interactive webpage
and created a Legal Compendium for the public to keep abreast of legal
decisions. Many female lawyers and judges owe much to his efforts to open
the profession to women. In addition to his profession, he co-founded the
Kats Rugby Club and was actively involved with the BC Lions and the CFL for
many years. More recently, he wished to acknowledge the important role UBC
had contributed to his many successes in life, and accepted the Alumni
Association's nomination to run as Chancellor. It was a position he held
with great pride and dignity for almost 6 years. We are blessed for having
known and loved this remarkable man. In keeping with Allan's wishes, there
will be a reception held at a future date. He requested that in lieu of
flowers, donations be made to establish a UBC Law Scholarship for a
deserving student so that he or she might have the opportunities Allan had.

TEATHER Allan On January 9th, 2008, Terry and Andria Teather and their
daughter Natalie lost their beloved son and brother Allan. In losing him we
lost his wonderful smile, his loving heart, his compassionate nature and his
incredible sense of humor. But we have been left with 22 years of warm
memories of those very things. A senseless act took him from us and his
extended family; grandparents Joyce and Allan Teather of Fonthill, Ontario
and Heather Denny of Allanburg, Ontario, as well as aunts, uncles and
cousins across the country. His many friends in Calgary and B.C., especially
Attila, Cole and Steve, his high school buddies, share the pain of this
loss. Allan gave us many things and we will stay strong during this
difficult time in his honor. In his teens he helped his father coach track
for Special Olympics and anyone wishing to honor Allan's memory is
encouraged to make a donation to BC Special Olympics. A celebration of
Allan's life will be held on Friday, January 18th at 1:00 p.m. at the
Columbia-Bowell Funeral Chapel, 219 6th Street, New Westminster, B.C. phone
# 521-4881.

IN MEMORIAM KAY WOOD May 20, 1920 - January 17, 2005 What would we give her
hand to clasp, Her patient face to see. To hear her voice, to see her smile,
As in the days that used to be. But some sweet day we''ll meet again Beyond
the toll and strife, And clasp each other's hand once more. In heaven, that
happy life. Sadly missed by your loving husband Jim, family and friends
