William (Bill) Arthur
Passed away peacefully in Campbell River Hospital February 6, 2008 at the
age of 90. Born in Rosalind, Alberta, September 8, 1917. Bill was
predeceased by his Father (William Block), Mother (Lillian Block), Son
(Gordon Block), Brothers (Brian and Dick Block), and Sister (Bernice
Hutchinson).
Bill will be greatly missed by his Wife of 57 years (Mary), Bothers (John
and Bruce), Sisters (Inez, Esther, Lila and Alwilda), Sons William (Debbie),
Ronald (Christine), Gary (Andrea), 4 Grandsons, 4 Granddaughters, 1 Great
Granddaughter and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Born in Alberta, Bill was raised as a farm boy. His Father died when he was
12 years old. Thus, Bill faced many responsibilities and hard work at an
early age. He experienced many jobs in order to pay his way through school.
In 1941 he signed up for the Navy, where he became a member of the combined
forces and worked on Assault Landing Crafts as a member of the The Second
Canadian Flotilla L.C.A. under the command of the Royal Navy. He received
medals for service in Greece, Africa, Italy, France, Germany and both Dieppe
and Normandy. After the war he went into the store business, married and
started his family in Drayton Valley, Alberta.
In 1966 Bill semi-retired to Cortes Island, B.C. before retiring to Campbell
River in 1985. He remained in Campbell River until his Time of Rest.
A service will be held at Sutton's Campbell River Funeral Home on Saturday,
February 16th, at 11:30 am. Reception to follow at the Campbell River Legion
Hall.

BRODIE
Wayne Allan Brodie, born on July 25, 1940, passed away on February 5, 2008
in Victoria, BC following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents
Ivy and Allan and his sister Barbara. Wayne is survived by his wife Myrtle,
his daughters Joanne (John), Karen (Rick), and his grandchildren Cory, Beau,
Dale, and Sarah. He is also survived by his brother Gordon. He will be
missed by numerous other relatives and many special friends.
Wayne lived his entire life in Campbell River. He worked in the logging
industry for over 45 years, and he was an avid traveller who enjoyed
curling, skiing, golfing, fishing, and riding his "Harley". He loved to
entertain and also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
The family would like to announce that a Celebration of Wayne's Life will
take place at the Maritime Heritage Centre, 621 Island Hwy, Campbell River,
BC on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
If friends so desire, donations in Memory of Wayne may be made to either
Ducks Unlimited or the Alzheimer's Society.

OHLINGER,
Eva Fredricka
May 15, 1913-February 4, 2008
The family of Eva Ohlinger, much loved mother and grandmother was called
home to heaven just a few months short of her ninety-fifth birthday. She was
predeceased by her husband Fred Ohlinger in 1977. She leaves behind sons
Hadley (Sandra) and Blaine (Marnie) grandchildren Dana, Paul (Amanda) Carla
(Todd) Tracy (Pat) and Tod.
Great grandchildren Rhys, Carly, Jenna, Kianna, Tia, Kaitlyn and
Christopher, sister Audrey in Melfort, Sask., and brother Rudy (Lee) in
Nanaimo, and numerous nephews and nieces across Canada.
Born in Earl Grey, Saskatchewan, Eva graduated from Luther College in Regina
and began her long teaching career in the depths of the depression of the
thirties starting a one room school house with eight grades. She and Fred
later became house parents opening Victoria House in Regina to provide care
to disadvantaged young girls who became as daughters.
Eva enjoyed a busy social life enjoying her church family and her chums at
the Happy Wanderers as well as the folks at Ironwood Place. She had the
opportunity to travel to Scotland, Australia, China and Cuba before taking
her last journey.
She never forgot a friend, a birthday or a kindness.
She never stopped missing her dear Fred.
A celebration of Eva's life will be held at the Bethany Luthern Church, 201
Birch Street, Campbell River on Friday, February 15th, 2008 at 1:30pm.

Kate Louis
Coolen, Kate Louis (nee Zinck), 85, of Comox, B.C., passed away peacefully
on February 4, 2008. She will be sadly missed by her children Tremaine
(Lynn), Langley, B.C., Marlane (Ken) Mann, Edmonton, Alberta, Jennifer of
Campbell River, B.C. and sister Elsie of Fox Point, N.S.. Kelly-Lyn (Gethin)
Evans, Jeffrey (Becky) and Ashlee, all of Langley, B.C., will miss sharing
Gramma's laughter.
Kate was predeceased by Bernard ("Bunny"), her husband of 60 years, brothers
Josiah and James, and sisters Vernie and Letha.
Born in Blandford, N.S., Kate served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps
(1943-1945) and was a 50-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. She will
be remembered most for her wit and ready smile by all those who entered her
home to test the latest recipe.
A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated VIHA caregivers and the special Mom
met at The Gardens at Qualicum Beach.
The funeral was held Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at 2pm, at Piercy's
Funeral Home, 440 England Ave., Courtenay, B.C. In lieu of flowers, a
donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Richard
August 25, 1938-February 8, 2008
Richard passed away peacefully at the Campbell River Hospital on Friday,
February 8th, 2008, at the age of 69.
Richard will be sadly missed by his brother John (Pat) Parkes, and sisters
Ester (Alec) Weir and Betty Kay (Doug) Zaharichuk; daughters Stacy Freeman,
Robin (Greg) Illchuk and Sue (Bruce) Reid; grandchildren Nicole, Brett and
Cole; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Les and
Marie Parkes.
Richard was born in Vegreville, Alberta and grew up in Jasper and Edmonton.
He graduated from St Joseph's High School and went on to complete a Business
Degree in 1960 at Gonzaga University in Spokane. He then attended a Master's
Degree Business Program at the University of Oregon. He owned a trucking
company in Rainbow Lake and Inuvik, NWT. He later resided mainly in the
Edmonton area where he had a successful career in industrial sales and
finance. In 1989 he semi-retired in B.C. and enjoyed sailing on his "First
Lark" in Victoria and later in Comox and Campbell River. His latest passions
were puttering about on his sailboat, travelling, and playing the stock
market. Richard will be sadly missed and a celebration of his life will take
place at a later date on the waters of Desolation Sound.
