HOOVER, Martha Joan Martha passed away peacefully in her 88th year on
February 7, 2008. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Elmer (El)
Hoover; sisters, Ruth, Betty; and brother, Dan. She is sadly missed by her
son, Ed; daughter, Terrie and son-in-law, Brian Procter. She will also be
sadly missed by grandchildren, Bradly Procter, David Procter, Crystal
Hoover, Caroline Hoover, Jessica Hoover, and great grandson, Sean Vaska;
sisters, Mary MacDonald, Anne Valouch; brothers, George, Bill, Andy, Victor
and Ted Kazimer. Born in Flat Lake, Alberta, she grew up in Vernon, BC and
married El in 1940 in Vancouver. El and Martha had many business ventures
over the years and Martha was always there be it driving taxi, dry cleaning
or running a restaurant, she was the lynch-pin that held things together.
She balanced this with raising two children and being a loving grandmother
to five grandchildren. They lived and worked in the Vancouver area until
1989 and moved to a little bit of paradise on Mayne Island. There Martha's
artistic side blossomed and she was a leader in the island quilting society.
She loved the cribbage club and excelled in that. Her green thumb was always
obvious with beautiful indoor and outdoor plants. Martha was loved by all
who came to know her well. Her many and long visits to Saanich Peninsula
Hospital were graced by the love and excellent care of the staff there. For
this the family is forever grateful. In lieu of flowers please make
donations to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation Fund. Memorial services
will be held at a later date in Vernon, BC. Condolences may be offered to
the family at www.mccallbros.com . 444008

HUUS, Lisa Pauline March 15, 1967 February 11, 1988 Twenty years have passed
and so much has changed in your absence, but your legacy continues to help
others. Not a day goes by without thoughts of you and how much we miss your
smile and bright personality. Now Dad has joined you and the two of you will
be watching over Mom and I. Gently guide us and giggle with us. An object of
beauty she fades on the horizon. Someone on my side says "she's gone."
Others on a distant shore take up the glad shout " Here she comes!" You're
in our hearts forever Lisa, with much love, Mom, Karen and Derrick, Olivia

NURNBERGER, Gordon 01 Nov. 1930 07 Feb. 2008 The family of Gordon Nurnberger
is deeply saddened to announce his death on February 7, 2008 at the Cowichan
District Hospital in Duncan BC. Gordie passed peacefully with his beloved
wife Lyse by his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Gordie was
born on November 1, 1930 in Kiel, Germany to Walter and Marga. As the son of
a Naval Officer, the family moved to Flensburg, Germany where he spent many
happy days with his father at the naval shipyards. During the Second World
War, the family lived briefly in Gdynia, Poland. The family returned to
Flensburg after the war, where Gordie apprenticed as a sign painter. On July
1st, 1954 Gordie immigrated to Canada and later was very proud to become a
Canadian citizen. Upon his arrival in Saskatoon, he worked as a sign painter
for several years. In 1959, he married Mavis Lay in Saskatoon, with whom he
had three children. In 1962, Gordon started his own business, Arco Signs
(later Arco Graphics) which he ran until his retirement. Gordie spent many
happy years in Saskatoon and in 1986 married Lyse Isabelle. He was well
respected in the business community and his name has been added to the
Master Street Naming List for the City of Saskatoon. He was a long time
member of the Saskatoon Downtown Lions Club (Past President), Saskatoon
Executive Club as well as a charter member of the Saskatoon Concordia Club.
Gordie enjoyed keeping in touch with many close friends and business
associates in Saskatoon right up until his passing. Gordie and Lyse enjoyed
17 years of retirement in the community of Arbutus Ridge, where they
developed many close friendships. Gordie realized his longtime dream of
living on the water and spent countless happy days fishing and navigating
the waters of the Saanich Inlet and Gulf Islands on the boat he designed and
had built. Gordie and Lyse also enjoyed extensive travel over the years to
Europe and tropical locales. They were able to enjoy one final Hawaiian
cruise this past Christmas and New Year. Gordie leaves to mourn his wife of
21 years, Lyse; his son Robin Nurnberger (Maureen O'Halloran) of Ottawa;
daughter Shelley Waldner (Ian) of Saskatoon; five grandchildren, Joshua
Nurnberger, Aran Nurnberger, Rachel Waldner, Leah Waldner and Chloe Waldner
(all of Saskatoon). He is also survived by his brothers Harro Nurnberger
(Giselinde), Horst Nurnberger; sister Inge Nickelsen (Horst); and several
nieces and nephews in Germany. Gordie was predeceased by his father Walter;
mother Marga; brother Hans-Werner in childhood; brother Walter Nurnberger;
and sister Ursula Filter. Sadly, in 1992, his son Jim passed away suddenly.
Gordie touched the lives of many and always had a friendly smile and word
for everyone he met. Gordie remained positive throughout his illness and
spent his last days happily at home doing what he loved. He will be deeply
missed. The family would like to thank his specialists Dr. Griffin and Dr.
Bernstein as well as the caring doctors, nurses and staff at the Cowichan
Community Cancer Clinic in Duncan. A memorial service and reception will be
held on Monday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk
Road, Duncan, BC. In lieu of flowers, gifts of donations may be made to the
