Kathryn Jane Barnett August 21, 1958 - January 30, 2008 Kathy Barnett
completed her circle of life suddenly, unexpectedly on January 30th while
vacationing in New Zealand. Her loss is felt profoundly and deeply by family
and friends and by the entire community of Whistler, B.C., her home, her
passion and the beneficiary of her tireless energy. Kathy leaves to the care
of friends and family the love of her life, her husband, life and business
partner, Bob. Predeceased by her parents, Keith and Dorothy Murphy, she is
missed and lovingly remembered by her sister Jo Ann (Mike); her brothers
John (Dawn) and Scott (Tracy); half-siblings Lorraine; Ken (Joan); and Laird
(Deb); and nieces and nephews Alison, Robyn, Keith and Jenny. A Burnaby girl
until she migrated up valley and fell in love with the town and colourful
characters that live in the shadows of Whistler Resort, Kathy found her
stride, her future husband and her mission in life while working as
publisher of The Whistler Question. Convinced the town needed and could
support an alternative publication, Kathy and Bob launched Pique
NewsMagazine 13 years ago. Like most independent publications, Pique lived
on dreams and determination the first couple of years, shepherded in no
small part by Kathy's business acumen and insistence on reinvesting whatever
profits there were back into the dream. The payoff came slowly but
dramatically; Pique became profitable and grew into a relied-on source for
news and entertainment for Whistler locals and visitors. If Pique is Kathy's
most visible legacy, it is by no means her only one. She was a founding
member of the Community Foundation of Whistler (CFOW); past chair of the
Whistler Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber's Business Person of the Year
in 2002; board member of the Women's Enterprise Centre of B.C.; and
appointee to the provincial Ministry of Small Business and Revenue's
roundtable on small business. In the estimation of her fellow board members,
Kathy's presence meant things got done; hers was a working contribution, not
a prestige appointment. Family, friends and much of the community of
Whistler will gather Sunday, February 10th, at 3:00pm in Whistler's
Conference Centre for a celebration of her too-brief time with us. In
keeping with her philosophy of life, we'll gather to let joyous memories
salve our grief and prepare us to move on with only her memory to inspire us
to find our better angels. In lieu of flowers, the family is certain Kathy
would prefer memorial donations be made to the CFOW.

his grandchildren play soccer and hockey in his later years. Bill took great
pleasure in spending time at his cabin in Deep Cove, helping his family,

MEERS Ronald Samuel (September 29, 1933 - January 29, 2008) It is with great
sadness that we announce the passing of our father, best friend, Papa and
husband, Captain Ronald Meers. On Tuesday, January 29 Ron passed away
peacefully with his family at his side in Nanaimo. From humble beginnings to
obtaining the rank of Captain with the BC Ferries, Ron had a remarkable
outlook on life. Embrace each day, learn from any source, be it a book, a
friend or colleague. Accept challenges and defeats, not as setbacks, but as
learning experiences. It is because of his philosophy that he inspired all
around him to set high standards and pursue their own dreams. From enlisting
in the Navy then transferring to the Army, to working on the railway then

MORRISON Agnes A April 18, 1925 - February 5, 2008 Agnes was the youngest of
eight (Arthur, Adam, Mary, Liz, Johnny, Helen, Robert and Ag). Mom lost Dad
on December 14, 1998 - Oscar was the youngest of six (Edith, Jean, Cliff,
Len, Murray and Oscar). Mom's passing is the end of that generation of our
family. Mom was born in Burnaby to John and Helen McCormack and attended
Schou Street School, Burnaby north. In 1945 she married Dad and in the next
five years gave birth to three boys: Jim and Kathleen, John and Ann, Don
(deceased Cathy Joy) and Audrey and four grandchildren - Jeremiah, Jesse,
Adam and Caitlin. Although they raised their children in Burnaby and then
Vancouver, the cabin in Boundary Bay was the place Mom loved to be. In 1968
they built a permanent home and lived the rest of their lives in Delta. Mom
loved her curling, golfing and creating a loving, gathering place for family
and friends. Everywhere Mom went she made friends, because she was a loving
and caring person. For the last few years, Mom had Alzheimers and lived the
last two years at West Shore Laylum which she loved as her home, supported
by a wonderful staff. If you knew Agnes and Oscar, we welcome you to a
gathering on Sunday, February 10, 2008, 2 pm at Delta Funeral Home, 5329
Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, BC. Donations in lieu of flowers to Delta
Hospital Foundation, where Mom volunteered for 30 years in the extended

PARKER KENT DOUGLAS "KP" At his home in Vancouver on Tuesday, February 5th,
2008 surrounded by those he loved, Kent ended his battle with biliary cancer
on his terms and finally slept. Born in Ottawa on November 4th, 1962, the
only child of Doug and Barb, he led a charmed life from the start. He was a
husband and best friend to Francine, mentor and guide to Eric, grandson,
uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and colleague. Kent's accomplishments were
numerous but he never measured himself against them instead always
endeavoring to better those around him. This explains why so many have
written such beautiful tributes over the last week of his life and increases
the difficulty in explaining his life in a few lines for a newspaper. For
those who knew Kent and for those whose lives he touched he wanted you to
know he loved you all and you made his life complete by being in it. As a
family we want to express our deepest and sincere thanks to Dr. Peter
Edmunds, Miss February and her calendar girls, the staff and nurses on 6
East who cared for all of us as a family. A service to celebrate Kent's life
will take place on Monday, February 11th at West Pt. Grey United Church,
4595 West 8th Ave. in Vancouver commencing at 2PM. A simple reception will
follow at the church where stories and laughter can be shared. At the
request of Kent, please consider a donation to the Canadian Liver
Foundation, BC/Yukon chapter where he served as volunteer president. "It is
not the length of life but depth of life." Ralph Waldo Emerson

PICKLES Timothy Douglas - It is with great sorrow we announce Tim's passing
on February 2, 2008. Against the odds, Tim amazingly held his own for so
many years against cancer. He left all too soon at the age of 51. Born in
Comox July 21, 1956, he spent his growing years in Kelowna hanging with a
small but great group of friends that he kept to this day. At age 17 moved
to Vancouver to live the bachelor life near his brothers. At age 21, he
became one of the first employees at Texcan Cables and began a rewarding
career that lasted almost 30 years as purchaser. Through those years he
garnered great respect from vendors and work associates alike with his
integrity and dedication. In the late 1980s, he met Sherry and moved to the
suburbs of Steveston where he enjoyed his life as a devoted husband in their
home near the river until his passing. Tim also had a love of music, movies,
gadgets, dining out and the hunt for the ultimate buy. Tim is survived by
his wife Sherry Mitchell, stepson Jody Crane (Wendy), stepdaughter Jade
Charney (Jason), grandchildren Marvel and Navy Crane, his brother Ken
(Wenda), nephew Brett (Wendy) their children Avery and Zoe, and many loving
relatives and friends. Tragedy was familiar to Tim even before his
diagnosis; predeceased by his nephew Cory, mom Edna, father Fred and brother
Cliff. After all this Tim still had a very positive attitude, quick wit,
incredible work ethic and gave comfort and love to his family. A special
thanks to the staff of the BC Cancer Hospital, especially to Floor 6 for
their kindness and camaraderie. Thank you to all our friends and family that
gave their kind support to us during all the difficult times. So, while at
the Flying Beaver Grill sipping a 1516, at Jericho Patio & Grill lazily
watching the life on the water; taking a long slow drive on a sunny day or
while you are anywhere eating fries, please take a moment to reflect on the
gift of Tim's friendship. This true gentleman will be greatly missed and
always loved. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Tim's
memory to either The B.C. Cancer Foundation or InspireHealth - Integrated
Cancer Care. Service is Tuesday, February 12, 2008 - 1:00 p.m. at The
Richmond Funeral Home located at 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond

echoes flying." Father and grandpa, you will always be in our hearts.
