BAKER, Daisy Duncan Daisy Duncan Baker passed away in the Saanich Peninsula
Hospital on Wednesday April 30th, 2008 after fighting a long, hard battle
always with courage and dignity with leukemia. Daisy was born October 30th
in Aberdeen, Scotland. She loved being a part of a large extended Scottish
family and had many stories to share of the mischief she got into as a young
lass. Daisy married Sydney on August 20th 1954, and the family warmly
embraced him and made him one of their ain folk. In May of 1967, Daisy and
Syd moved their family to Calgary, a place Daisy had read about and was
intrigued by. Though Daisy missed her hame," it was a great move and many
new friendships and lasting ties were made. After moving to Moose Jaw for a
brief time, Daisy and Syd retired in Sidney, B.C. in 1988. Again, many great
friendships and bonds were formed, and they enjoyed every gettogether and
outrageous party with the group." Well-known for her extensive vocabulary
(supplemented with a wee drop o' Doric), Daisy was admired for her skill in
poetry writing and often had an original poem ready for many of these
celebrations. As volunteer with Sendial for ten years in Sidney, Daisy got
to know many people and enjoyed bantering back and forth with the employees
and took delight in engaging the young workers in conversation. Daisy was
predeceased by her father Gilbert Gray in November 25, 1935, infant brother
James in October 1946, mother Elizabeth on September 11, 1992, and brother
Gilbert on April 17, 1995. She is survived by loving family members: her
husband Sydney; two daughters, Angela Adam and her husband Don of Edmonton,
Alberta, and Karen Bromley and her husband David of Stettler, Alberta; and
two grandchildren Lindsey and Kent Bromley whom she adored. She will be
sadly missed by her life-long pals Muriel Tocher and Jimmy Reith and her
many wonderful friends. Many thanks for the exceptional care given by Dr.
Cuthbert and her medical receptionist, Yvette Noreen, and the nursing staffs
at the Jubilee Hospital's Richmond Pavilion and at the Saanich Peninsula

MOONEY, Dorthea (Betty) (nee Brennecke) April 6, 1932 April 30, 2008 Mom
passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was
predeceased by her husband Jack (1966), grandson Shawn (1995) and brother
Wilfred (2004). Mom was born in Willowfield, Saskatchewan and her tough
prairie upbringing gave her, her tremendous strength and courage to face the
many challenges that would come her way in life. Mom worked at many things
through life but found her true calling as a health care worker at Glendale
Lodge and then retiring from Oak Bay Lodge. Her deep compassion for the
residents she cared for brought quality and dignity to them at a time when
they most needed it. Mom loved gardening, politics and music, but her true
passion was the love of animals. She was deeply saddened with the recent
passing of her "best friend', Caddy, a bond like no other. As a mom, she was
the best. She devoted her life to raising and caring for her four daughters
with lots of tough love but much tenderness as well. She will always be
remembered as hard working, fiercely independent, and underneath that tough
exterior, a heart of gold who would do anything for anyone. Mom's sense of
humour and love will be deeply missed by her daughters, Darlene (Marcel),
Debby (Arpi), Lynn, Doris (Ian), 7 grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kelly, the Homecare nurses and
Hospice. A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria SPCA in memory of
Betty Mooney. Those we love don't go away They walk beside us every day
