Lillian:
Go see the Pan for Gold database online
http://www.yukongenealogy.com/
Pretty well ALL the records of people in the area and entering the area,
during the gold rush in one place.

Subject: [CAN-BC] LOOKUP - Directories - GILLESPIE, James M. 1894-1897
I am not familiar with what Directories/Gazetteers would be available
for the years 1894-1897 in British Columbia. Could someone tell me what
they are called and where they might be available for a lookup please?
I am researching the whereabouts of a JAMES MATTHEW GILLESPIE, b.1872
Liverpool. At age 22, he sailed to Canada in 1894 intending to work in
the goldfields; his occupation was carpenter/joiner. Nothing is known
of where he actually lived and worked.
In late 1897 James returned home ill, and broke, and told his family "he
hated the Canadian weather, and that they should be thankful for the
abundance of food they had (in the UK) that he didn't get in
Canada"....two comments that perhaps support the theory he at least
tried to reach the goldfields, perhaps through British Columbia?
Any information or advice would be appreciated.
