Hello List:

I had a chance to go to the library today and start the lookups, so the results are listed below. First, I should point out what this contains.

It really is similar to today's phone books. Names and addresses (so in 1866 women aren't listed unless they were widowed and there are no other members of the household listed.)

The business section I would compare to today's 'yellow pages'.

DONOVAN; 3 listings--James Donovan, cabinet maker, 26 Vallee. James Donovan, grocer, 48 Colborne. and James Donovan, labourer, r (rue?/street) 198 Ottawa.

DONOVAN, Richard, labourer, r 86 Murray

There was nothing for a Patrick Donovan, but there was a Peter, lumber merchant, 39 Inspector, home, 178 Ann

CAREY, Michaell, confectioner, 2 Dumarais

DOODY, Dennis, grocer, 275 William, Patrick Doody, labourer, 263 William, Patrick Doody, trader, 157 Murray. Haven't checked for Askwith or Plunkett yet.

BUXEY, Edouard, labourer, 162 Colborne Av ---you were right Mary, this was the only entry for that name.

MURPHY--Peter, machinist, 42 Smith------ Michael, blacksmith, 150 Prince --------Michael, carter, 98 Colborne ---- Michael, carter, 65 St Patrick ----- Michael, labourer, 112 Colborne ----Michael, labourer, 17 Queen

There were 4 more Murphy's, but they were closing the library and there wasn't time to write them down (our fiche reader apparently won't print anything).

Anyway I will be going back tomorrow (Sunday) and will get the rest of the Murphy's and more of your requests answered.

NOTE: I haven't found HAYDEN, --what other spellings have you come across in your research, or do you know the name of the butcher shop?

Also for JONES, Patrick--there is no listing in the residential section, which wasn't a surprise--but do you know the name or type of store that he had?
