Hi all,
I've been a subscriber to the Montreal list ever since it started, but I
didn't learn about the existence of this list until it showed up via a
Google search I just ran.
For those of you who are not already familiar with the surnames that I
research, the primary Irish surname that I research in Montreal records
is McCloskey/McClosky/McCluskey/McClusky. I will paste into this
message a 2-generation outline descendant report of the McClosky family
that I am researching in Montreal:

It is only in the last week that I was able to connect William McCloskey
as a child of this couple; the proof came in the form of a listing for
Archibald McClosky in the St. Alban's list which showed that the
Archibald McClosky who had a sister named Mary Long in Montreal also had
a brother named William McCloskey living in Shelton, Connecticut (in
late 1919).
Also in the last week I have confirmed that Archibald McClosky the son
is found in U.S. census records for 1900 (Oshkosh, Wisconsin), 1910
(Oshkosh, Wisconsin), 1920 (Shelton, Connecticut with his brother
William) and 1930 (Hot Springs, Arkansas). Documentary evidence comes
in the form of another listing for Archie McClosky in the St. Alban's
list which shows his occupation as Optician and his wife as Amelia of
Montreal, along with the mention of Optician as the occupation for 3 of
the 4 U.S. census records. The 4th U.S. census record is tied in via
several entries in the City Directories for Shelton, Connecticut which
show Archibald McCloskey the optician moved to Arkansas.
Of the children shown for Archibald McClosky and his wife Mary
Scally/Skelly, their daughter Delia B. McClosky (also referred to as
Bridget McClosky) is my ancestor. One item I would dearly love to find
is the record of her baptism. Delia's older sister Jane and supposedly
younger brother Archibald were both baptized in Notre Dame parish, so
the chances are that Delia/Bridget was also baptized in Notre Dame
parish. I have three potential years of birth for Delia/Bridget --
1859, 1860 and 1863. Of these, the year 1859 is most likely to be
correct as the majority of the evidence points to that year. During my
first trip to the Montreal archives in 1998, I viewed the index cards
for Catholic births, and saw lots of
McCloskey/McClosky/McCluskey/McClusky records, but none for Delia. At
the time I didn't know that she was also referred to as Bridget. At
this point I assume that her baptismal record must be recorded under the
name Bridget.
I have a bit of information on other
McCloskey/McClosky/McCluskey/McClusky families in Montreal, but
certainly not as much information as I have for the family I am
researching.
