Maureen,

Having such a huge event in March attract so many people to the city is
evidence that the Irish are alive and well in Montreal. I'm sure Toronto's
Parade was also a success, which is clear to me that the Irish community is
vibrant across the country - a country our families helped to build.

My son Patrick had a great time and I had fun watching him whoop it up.

With respect to the Gazette, they quoted me correctly. (I try not to
estimate crowd numbers) The parade ends at St. Urbain Street. East of Jeanne
Mance the crowd was a little thin but it picked up at the reviewing stand.
The parade wasn't shorter - it moved a lot quicker for some reason.

We may not see the Irish Ambassador to Canada at our parade very often but
having the Prime Minister participate (with is riding, not with the
dignitaries) is special (if not a logistical nightmare!)

> So I seen you and your son walking ahead of you at the parade Ken. He's
already very good at waving and getting the crowd stirred up. :-)

> They don't say how many people attended this year in the Gazette but I was
disappointed to see them write that the crowd was thinner especially east of
Jeane Mance. Doesn't the parade end there? Therefore there would be no crowd
east of there?
>
> I thought there were just as many people as last year if not more. We
always stand on the corner of Bishop in front of the church and the crowd
was backed up right to the church wall. My niece was in front of Ogilvy's
and the same story there.
>
> I thought the parade was shorter this year though, a bit over two hours.
Last year it seems it lasted almost 3 hours.
>
> I was surprised to see Prime Minister Paul Martin walking the parade! You
wouldn't see George Bush walking down NYC's parade for the whole route.
>
> One downside, last year parking on DeMaisonneuve and McKay cost us $6.
this year the same place cost us $12. real rip off!!!
>
> But I always love the parade and nice warm weather this year!
