Regrettably, I don't have the time for this. Number one, this IS a Canadian-Irish list which I have always been led to understand is English. Number two, as mentioned, there are many other sites on the internet where one can research his/her Irish ancestry in the English language and I intend to do just that even though I understand French and can read and write in this language.
As a former Montrealer who lived most of my life in that city, married and raised children, we left there not because we wanted to but because my husband was transferred. The city still holds great meaning for me - my roots are there. I have the utmost respect for my French brethren and I expect the same from them; I also have French-speaking friends in that city. When I subscribe to a FRENCH genealogy list I do my utmost to write my messages in their language. There are Americans and residents of the U.K. who subscribe to this list whose knowledge of the French language is either minimal or non-existent. I'm afraid the suggestion put forward to "translate" these incoming messages just wouldn't cut it with researchers from other countries. Many of us are too busy for this. Ken, regarding what you said concerning, "I want to thank you very much for driving away a list member", .......well, you have just driven away another one - an English one this time.

Hi All,
We've beat this to death. Johanne has unsubscribed and that's a shame. As
far as I am concerned, for the amount of French written on this list, the
reaction of a select few has been most un-Canadian and, dare I say,
un-Irish.
Caed Mile Failte means "One Hundred Thousand Welcomes". That's what we're
all about. However that's not how we have acted the last day or so.
I want to thank you very much for driving away a list member.
I will state categorically that the French language is welcome here. Should
you not understand French, avail yourself of a translation service such as
babelfish.altavista.com.
This topic is now officially closed. No more discussion on the list.
thank you.
