The first born son of Adam and Jane that you mention, Alexander, born 1827, married Catherine Chisholm on 14 Dec 1860. Two known children were George Whitfield Tait (born 1865) and Lois Amelia Tate (born 1868).
Catherine Chisholm was the daughter of George Chisholm, an Irish immigrant.
If anyone has more information on this family and descendants, I'd be grateful to hear about it.
