BOONE, Sarah (nee Shelley) – Born April 26, 1926. It is with great sadness
that we announce the peaceful passing of Sarah, in her 82nd year, while
surrounded by her children on December 14, 2007. As the family mourns her
loss, we also celebrate her life. Predeceased by her devoted husband of 48
years, Harold Elijah; and her first born child, Theresa; her parents:
Walter and Theresa (nee TOBIN) Shelley. She is lovingly remembered by her
children and grandchildren: Kathleen (Walter Crotty), Erin and Shannon;
Marilyn (Ron Schultz); Rosalie (Wayne May), Damien and Michael; Dr. Wayne
Boone (Denis Guerin); Lorraine Ennis, Douglas and Tiffany; Harry (Jan
Switek), Chelsea; Anthony (Elayne Wandler), Samuel and Jackson; Theresa
Anne Marie (Dennis Koscielnuk), Brooke and Drew; and special caring friend
and singing partner, Mary Crotty. She is also predeceased by her brothers:
Ned, Bill, Frank and Jack; and sisters: Martina Swikert and Mary Theresa
Furey. She is survived by her sisters: Bridget Payne, Catherine (Kitty)
Snow and brother Tom; brother-in-law Jordan Boone (Lillian). Sarah’s
family would like to extend immense gratitude to the dedicated, kind and
compassionate staff at the Agnes Pratt Home. Her presence will always be
remembered by the many friends whose lives she touched through good times,
hard times, a party, a story or a song. Sarah is resting at Caul’s Funeral
Home. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 15th
and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 16. Funeral Mass to be held
at St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent on Monday, December 17th at 9:30
a.m. Cremation to follow, with interment at a later date in Stephenville,

BROKENSHIRE, James Murray – Passed peacefully away on December 14, 2007,
in his 86th year, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased
by his wife Gwen (Earle) and brother Bill. Leaving to mourn sons: Jim,
Fred, Howard, Earle and spouses Sharron Howard, Cindy Bishop and Toni
Zafir. Also five grandchildren whom he adored: Jane (Ryan MacKay), Burke,
Murray and their mother Gladys, Hannah and Katie. Also Matthew Murphy,
special friend Anne Wilcott, and, a large circle of family and friends.

CARBERRY, Ronald – August 27, 1921 - December 2, 2007. Passed away quietly
and peacefully at home in Duncan, Vancouver Island, after a short battle
with cancer. Survived by his wife and best friend, Joyce; daughter,
Christine (Neil); son, Ted (Brita); and two grandchildren; plus many
nieces and nephews across the mainland and U.S. Also, sister Hilson in
Kansas and brother Fred (Audrey) in St. John’s. Predeceased by parents:
Edward and Elizabeth; sisters: Dorothy, Mildred, Evelyn and Betty, many
other relatives and friends. He left Newfoundland 60+ years ago, but it
never left him. Cremation and a tea to honor his memory has taken place at
the Silver Bridge Travel Lodge in Duncan.

COLLINS, Ellen (Nell) (nee Farrell) – Died at the age of 96 on December
11, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Home in St. John’s. Predeceased by her husband
Jack Collins, as well as ten siblings: Genevieve, Edward, Phil, Jim, Lar,
Marg, Alice, Anne, Bridget and Mary. Leaving to mourn two sons: Richard
(Margie MacGillivray) and John (Clare Barry); six grandchildren: Sara,
Richard, Julia, Michael, Sam and Alex; five siblings: Catherine Walsh,
Gertrude Tobin, Theresa Coady, Rita Hairston and Michael Farrell (Emma);
over three score of nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives
and friends. The family thanks the wonderful staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy
Home who added immeasurably to her comfort and pleasure during the last

HAYES, Frank — Passed peacefully away at Harbour Lodge Nursing Home in
Carbonear on December 14, 2007, at the age of 91, Frank Hayes of Brigus,
formerly of Cupids. At the time of his passing, Dad was the oldest living
member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2330.
He leaves to celebrate a long life well-lived his life wife, Margaret (nee
McGrath), sons Gerard (Patty), Barry and Francis (Tina), his daughter
Joanne (Dieter Rudat), eight grandchildren and many relatives and friends
throughout the island and at Black Tickle, Labrador. Visitation at Caul’s

GREENING, Lloyd – Passed peacefully away at Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, St.
John‚s on December 13, 2007, age 87 years. Predeceased by brothers Hubert
and Joseph; sisters: Hilda Peddle and Evelyn Lodge; son-in-law: Bill Kean.
Left with fond and loving memories are wife Ella of 62 years; daughter
Betty; sons Morris (Winetta) and Val (Janet); grandchildren: Greg, Leanne,
Lori, Jeff, Roderick (Christine), Kimberly (Todd), Chris (Susan), Stephen
(Dawn), Robert (Susan); two great-grandchildren Avery and Abigail;

MANNING, Leonard — Passed peacefully away at his home in Patrick’s Cove on
December 14, 2007, born January 15, 1932. Predeceased by his parents
Walter and Catherine Manning, his brother Mick and sister Mary Ann
English. Leonard had just celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife
Nora, who is a resident of the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia,

MEHANEY, Kevin – April 26, 1958 - November 30, 2007. It is with deep
sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved father, son,
brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Kevin Mehaney, who was tragically
killed in a motor vehicle accident south of Fort McMurray on November 30,
2007. Left to cherish his memory are sons: Corey and Ryan, their mom

O’CONNELL, Kevin– At the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, December 11,
2007, Kevin O’Connell, aged 80, formerly of Petries, Bay of Islands. Left
with loving memories, his wife of 57 years, Peggy (O’Brien) and his three
children: Ann Ring (Ed), Michael (Connie) and Brian (Margot); as well as
his sister Ann Basha in Ontario. Pop was and will be forever remembered as
a mentor, advisor and chauffeur to his nine grandchildren: Edward (Tanya)

Hospital, Ontario, on December 7, 2007, aged 69 years. Predeceased by
infant son Cornelius Thomas O’Leary, parents William and Elizabeth
Ezekiel, nephew Johnny Ezekiel, niece Christine McDonald and brother

Trinity Bay, at age 88. Predeceased by first husband Roy Tucker; second
husband Henry Pinhorn; brothers: Huntley, Eric, Lloyd, Jack, Joshua,

RYAN, Mercedes Theresa – August 31, 1925 - December 11, 2007. Passed
peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, Mercedes Ryan, formerly
of Tilting, Fogo Island. Predeceased by parents Michael and Catherine
Burke; brothers: James and Harold; sisters: Julia, Helen, Rose, Francis
and Lena; and husband Ross. She is survived by son Patrick (Loretta) of
Mobile; daughters: Vickie Zoltay (Nicholas) of Surrey, BC, Gail Chaulk
(Wayne) of St. John’s; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many
nephews and nieces and many friends throughout Canada and the United
States. Mercedes was a longtime volunteer with Canadian Blood Services and
the Seniors Resource Centre in St. John’s. She operated her own
hairdressing and retail businesses in Tilting and was employed in a
variety of occupations in Toronto. At her request, cremation has taken
place with burial at a later date.

SHEPPARD, Wilfred – (January 11, 1922 - December 13, 2007). It is with
deep sadness that we, the family of Wilfred Sheppard, announce the sudden
passing of a cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother. Leaving

December 13, 2007 in the presence of loving family, age 78 years.
Predeceased by parents Allan and Rhoda Blundon, husband Joshua Short,
brother Ernest Blundon and daughter-in-law and dear friend Nita Short.
Leaving to mourn three daughters: Joan (Owen) Jacobs, Florence (Merlin)

SOPER, Edgar Lloyd – July 17, 1935 - Dec. 9, 2007. Passed away peacefully
at the HSC on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 in the presence of his loving family
after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by mother Daisey and
father Augustus and son Yuri. Left to carry on his love, wife Gladys
(Thorne); daughters: Debbie (Brian Ash), Heidi (Pierre Gauthier), Cindy
(Tom Costello), Laura (Shawn Bessey); grandchildren: B.J., Chelsea,
Brittany and Jenny; sisters: Flo (Norm Higdon); Mary (Pat Byrne),
Augustine (Clyde Wells) and a large circle of family and friends. As per
Lloyd’s wishes, cremation occurred on Dec. 10th and private internment
will take place at a later date at a site where he has shared wonderful

STACK, William H. – Passed away December 13, 2007 in London, Ontario,
after a brief illness, age 74. Predeceased by his parents John and Monica

THORNE, Susie (nee Snelgrove) – Passed peacefully away at the Glenbrook
Lodge on Friday, December 14, 2007, in the presence of her devoted and
loving family, Susie Thorne of Torbay, and formerly of Lower Island Cove,
at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her loving husband Richard,
brothers Henry (Lucy), Herbert, Bill (Fannie), Simeon and sisters Florence
(George), Lizzy and Saddie (Peter). Leaving to mourn daughters Shirley
Thorne (Eddie), Marilyn (Moore) (Gus); son Cecil Thorne (Marion);
grandchildren Corrissa (Tony), Mark (Shannon) and great-granddaughter
Emma. Also leaving to mourn are many nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and friends. A very special thank you to all the staff at
Glenbrook Lodge (her special angels), who made Mom’s stay so pleasant.
Special mention to Charlotte Cornish (roommate), who shred many happy
hours together. To Major Granter, and all other Chaplains, who provided
daily chapel services which she so enjoyed, a very big thank-you. Also to
Rev. Dr. Bob Rowland and Deacon Gerald Hayes who visited Mom while at
Glenbrook and St. Clare’s Hospital for providing her with spiritual
support. While it is impossible to thank everyone individually, please be
assured that your visits, phone calls and support was greatly appreciated.
Her infectious smile and pleasant personality was a gift to all who knew
her. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, Torbay. Visitation Saturday from 2
p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon - 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Monday,
December 17 at 2 p.m. from St. Nicholas’ Anglican Church, Torbay.
Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Torbay. Flowers gratefully

WARREN, Pearl (nee Best) – Passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Home on
Thursday, December 13, 2007, Pearl Warren, formerly of Tack’s Beach, P.B.,
age 96 years. Predeceased by parents, Samuel and Lilias Best; brothers:
Albert, George, Stan, Cecil and Ches; and sisters: Mabel and Jessie.
Leaving to mourn two sisters: Sadie Willis and Hannah Lockyer (Sarnia,
Ontario); three sons: Reginald Warren (Chester Basin, Nova Scotia), David
Warren (St. John’s) and Chesley (Mary) Warren (St. John’s); four
daughters: Rita (Sonny) Giddens (Minden, Louisiana), Grace (Charles) Royer
(Allentown, Pennsylvania), Blanche Graves (Aiken, South Carolina) and
Violet (Barry) Delmage (Sarnia, Ontario); 21 grandchildren, 33
great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. The family thanks
the wonderful staff of Saint Luke’s Home who provided care, comfort, and

WHELAN, Theodore Joseph – Passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic
accident on Sunday, December 9, 2007, Theodore Joseph (TJ) Whelan of
Marysvale, aged 23 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories,
his parents, Ted and Patsy Whelan; his precious son, Brady; grandparents,
Raymond and Nora McHugh, and Bill and Geraldine Whelan; special uncle,
