Trying to find confirmation of James Henry Gibson's birth.

On his Wedding Cert to Annie Clyde 1867 in New Zealand he has his age as 33yrs making his birth abt 1834(I think he lied about his age as his wife was a lot younger- 23yrs)

On his Death Cert 24 August 1906,it has his age as 84yrs making his birth abt 1822, also has his birth place as St Johns Newfoundland, under parents there is nothing.
Can anyone help please
