Dear Hugh:-
Judging by your letter's subject heading and further mention of census records,
I presume you
read the article posted to the CAN-NS-ANTIGONISH list -- the one concerning
prairie provinces.

Why are Post-1901 census records important?
In the case of the three prairie provinces, there has never been a Canadian
census -- for the
1901 census, these three provinces were not part of Canada. You would be able to
find
good census records under Hudson's Bay Company -- even names changed.

Due to a law which has been grossly misinterpreted by Members of Parliament and
ones in
charge of Statistics, we now have to FIGHT to obtain release of the 1911, plus
the 1906
prairie one that should have been released in 1998.

Many years ago, over 100,000 children were brought to Canada and known as
British
Home Children -- do not confuse these with ones sent by parents during World War
Two.
The children were abused, treated like slaves, surnames changed, separated from
their
siblings -- only the POST-1901 CENSUS RECORDS may give us the identity of our
ancestors.

I have worked with one man, his name was changed -- he had seven brothers and
sisters he had never been told about -- the man lives near me, now has his
rightful name
known, and although family members are deceased, they had children who have
become known to him.

If you know your grandparents and all family members, you are a very lucky
man!!! Try
imagining what it would be like if you did not! There would always be an empty
void
and your family and yourself would feel incomplete.

Go to http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score5.htm#NS
Read what YOUR Member of Parliament has written about Post-1901 Census Release.

Did you know there is a provincial ONLINE census site for Nova Scotia census
records?
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~downhome/nscensus.html

Lark Szick <> and I will accept any census records -
regardless
of the year -- Bryan Keddy <> does the posting for
us.
Check the census URL -- you will notice we even have victualling lists and
muster
rolls of various regiments -- will do for a census if records have not been
given.

Suggestion:- YOU complete your county -- it will only be up to 1901 -- and if
we do not
get further records released to Public Archives, that will remain as the last
one.

You are a taxpayer -- must be interested -- get after ANY Member of Parliament
who has
not written -- as for Brian Tobin -- he left his writing skills in Newfoundland
-- or is
told what not to say.

Yes, I am a former Nova Scotian -- have been a researcher for over 20 years --
knew
about this post-1901 problem in early 1980s, courtesy of Allan Dunlop and
Terrence
Punch. We did not organize into a volunteer committee until March 1999 and
seemed to be doing well, until an unnecessary election was called.

Senator Lorna Milne has Bill S-12 and Murray Calder has Bill C-312 -- their
pages are
at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html

We will be looking for either (1) additional census records or (2) assistance in
release
of 1901, 1911 and later census records automatically to National Archives.
