CHISHOLM, Donald Joseph "Sherriff" - Died peacefully at home with family on
June 1, 2005, at the age of 83. He was born in Antigonish, September 7,
1921, to the late Duncan and Mary (Chisholm) Chisholm. He was a veteran of
the Second World War and subsequent long-term member of the Royal Canadian
Legion. Donald worked for the Royal Bank of Canada in several locations in
Nova Scotia and Alberta. In 1949, he took a position with Antigonish
Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company, later becoming manager in 1961. He
served in that position for 28 years until his retirement in 1989. During
his working life he also served as a certified property appraiser and as a
Judge of the Assessment Appeals Court. Following his retirement in 1989,
Donald and his wife Anne divided their time between Antigonish and
Zephyrhills, Fla. During his life, Donald participated in many church and
community organizations, including the Knights of Columbus (becoming a
Fourth Degree Knight), the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the St. Ninian's
Parish Council. He was active in many sports including bowling and darts
and was a long-time member and former president of the Antigonish Golf and
Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne (Cousineau);
sons, Robert (Beverley), Bridgewater; Bill (Linda), Antigonish; Marc
(Debbie), Halifax; daughter, Annette, Antigonish; sister, Janet Landry,
Antigonish; grandchildren, Joey, Christy, Aimee and Duncan. He was
predeceased by his sister, Mary Christine. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m.
Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in MacIsaac's Funeral Home, Pleasant
Street, Antigonish. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Monday in St.
Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donald's
family is very grateful to all the individuals and organizations that
provided the support services that enabled him to stay at home during his
final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martha's
Hospital Palliative Care or the Antigonish chapter of the Victorian Order
