Hi All,
Mary Constance Levangie is the mother of one of our listers Lorraine
Heffler. Mary wasn't born in Antigonish, but she spent a lot of her
childhood in Frankville. She has a lot of connections with Antigonish.
Best, Linda

LEVANGIE, Mary Constance "Connie" - 82, Halifax. It is with sadness that
the family announces the death of Connie Levangie, who passed away June 6,
2005, after bravely fighting several illnesses in which she displayed both
grace and good humour. Connie is survived by daughters, Lorraine (Don
Heffler), Linda (Thomas Cross), Gail (Robert Salah), Marilou (Dana
Gallant); sons, Philip (Cathy), Michael (Jane), Richard (Kristina
Robinson); grandchildren, Tara Keleher, Taylor, Elizabeth, Jason, Andrew
and William Levangie, Anthony and Adriane Salah, and Samuel Cross; sisters,
Eileen Corbett and Rita (Robert Harrop); brothers, William (Mary), Mark
(Roberta) and Burke (Joan). She was predeceased by her beloved husband,
William Sanford "Sam" Levangie; her dear brother, John, and by wonderful
sisters, Edith Levangie and Joan Marie Corbett. Born July 20, 1922, in
Riversdale, Colchester Co., Connie enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Valley
and Frankville. She was the daughter of the late John P. and Vena May
(Bennett) Corbett. She graduated from Antigonish's St. Martha's Hospital in
1944, and worked at Camp Hill Hospital during the war and until her
marriage to Sam in 1946. After several years in Antigonish and Montreal,
she returned to Halifax with her husband and young family. Connie's nursing
career at the Halifax Infirmary spanned more than 30 years, the majority of
which were spent on the maternity ward. It was a vocation that she truly
loved, and she touched many lives there. After her retirement in 1983, she
volunteered in the Infirmary's Palliative Care Unit. Connie was a devout
Catholic and a woman of deep faith, which brought great comfort in her
final years. A former member of St. Agnes Parish and a current member of
Canadian Martyrs' Parish, she served as a Eucharistic minister at both. Due
to her strong sense of social responsibility and great personal generosity,
Connie supported many charities and sponsored several seminarians in South
America. She will be missed for her kindness, steadfastness, humour,
dignity, and tremendous courage. Connie loved all of her children
profoundly, and delighted with each new son and daughter who joined her
family through marriage. She rejoiced with the birth of every grandchild,
and made a special place for them in her heart. She had a keen wit, a sharp
tongue, and a lovely way with people. Her many stories will be told again
and again in the coming years. The family is grateful to Homecare Nova
Scotia, as well as the wonderful doctors and nurses at the QEII Health
Sciences Centre 8.1 and 8.2 for their kindness and compassion. Heartfelt
thanks is also extended to the many paramedics who were sensitive to the
needs of our dear friend and mother so many times. Visitation will be 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., on Thursday, June
9, with funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10, in Canadian Martyrs'
Church, Halifax. A reception will take place immediately following the mass
in the church hall. Following the reception, burial will take place in Gate
of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In keeping with Connie's passion for
social justice, donations may be made to Feed Nova Scotia (213 Bedford
Hwy., Halifax, NS B3M 2J9, 457-1900) or Development and Peace (1531 Grafton
St., Halifax, 422-8428).
