Jessie (MacEachern) Fitzgerald

With overflowing love and tears in our hearts, we say good bye to our
mother and nanny, Jessie, who died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.
Mom was born in Meat Cove and moved to Dingwall at a young age. Mom
had a very strong faith and got to church whenever she could. She was
a member of St. Joseph's CWL.
She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come for a
visit. We had many cups of tea with her homemade baking and many,
many laughs. She loved going to bingo with her daughters.
She is survived by her six children - sons, Charlie (Marie)
Fitzgerald, Cape North, Wayne (Dodie) Fitzgerald, Sugar Loaf, Richard
(Cindy) Fitzgerald, Dingwall; daughters, Diane Burpee, Alberta,
Claire (Rick) Hatcher, Neils Harbour, Kaye (Gary) Fitzgerald, Smelt
Brook; her pride and joy; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Ruth Brock, Ontario, Christine Lewis, Edwardsville, Pauline
Chubbs, Dingwall; brothers, Alex MacEachern, Baddeck, Stephen
MacEachern, Dingwall; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews,
cousins, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law.
Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Mike, parents, Augustine and
Maggie MacEachern, sister, Kaye Dunphy, brothers, John William,
Archie, Douglas, Russell, Michael and Dukie MacEachern.
We would like to extend sincere thanks to the nurses, doctors and
especially Dr. Buffett of Buchanan Memorial Hospital who gave Mom the
best care in her last hours with us. To the home care gals, who made
Mom's life easier, she loved your visits and special care. Also, we
thank the Cape North fire department first responders who comforted
Mom many times while awaiting the ambulance and especially to the
ambulance drivers on Mom's last trip, who comforted her and the
family members.
Visitation for the late Jessie Fitzgerald will be held 7-9 p.m.,
Monday, Nov. 7 with a funeral mass 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, both from
St. Joseph's Church, Dingwall, Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating.
Interment in the parish cemetery.

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family,
announce the passing of Russell Sampson on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at
the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Helen
(Courage) Sampson.
He was employed with the Canadian Coast Guard.
Russell enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends, John
and Margaret Hodgson, at the bungalow.
Russell is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Seymour) Sampson; his
pride and joy, daughter, Tanya MacDonald (Derek Poirier), Sydney; his
four precious grandchildren, Christian, Cassidy, Lance and Robyn. He
is also survived by brother, Edmond (Ruby) Sampson, Ontario; sisters,
Yvonne (Angus) MacLellan, Betty Chipman, Pat (Joe) Parago and Helen
(Jim) Dixon, all of Sydney; the extended Seymour family; as well as
many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Martha
'Chickie' Sampson and stepfather, Bernard Parago.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 7,
2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St.,
Sydney, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. in the
chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.

Charlene DiFlavio

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Emily
Charlene DiFlavio on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at the Cape Breton
Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family at her side, after a long
battle with cancer.
Charlene was born in Blackett's Lake and was the daughter of the late
Charles and Emily (Hynes) Crane.
Charlene was well-respected and well-loved by many co-workers,
friends and family members. She was known as someone you could talk
to, whether it was about a problem, a concern, or if you just wanted
to chat. She was also known for her love of bingo, shopping and a
well made Tim Hortons coffee.
Left to mourn their loss are her loving husband, Luke, son, Charles
(Shelly), daughter, Gena and grandson, Luca. Also surviving are her
sisters, Linda (David) MacInnis and Shirley (Donald) Lamson;
brothers, Gordon Crane, Manitoba, and Kenneth Crane, British
Columbia; and her many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, Nov.
6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Alban's
Anglican Church on Monday at 2 p.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake
officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
A special thank you goes out to all the doctors and nurses that took
such wonderful care of Charlene while she fought her battle.

Sandra Peck

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our
daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, godmother and great
friend to all, Sandra Marie Peck on Nov. 2, 2011, in Baddeck.
Born in Baddeck on Sept. 8, 1968, she was the daughter of Benjamin
Peck Sr. and the late Elizabeth (Francis) Peck.
She was a member of the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha parish, Wagmatcook.
She is survived by son, Elijah; daughter, Cassandra; brothers,
Leonard, Abraham, Eugene, Anthony, Roger (Angela), Ben (Martha),
Calvin and Lester (Ann); sister, Jane Elizabeth; most cherished
granddaughter, Martha jij; godchildren, Armando Tontarelli, Gloria
Peck, Sebastian Pierro, Amber Isadore and Aaron Marshall; and plenty
of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Annie C. Pierro,
paternal grandparents, Mary Susan Isadore and Abraham Peck
(Eskasoni), son, Cyrus, sister, Martha, brothers, Gregory and Cryril,
nephews, Joshua and Nilan, nieces, Elizabeth Ann, Cyndi Joy, Vanessa,
(twins) Angelina and Angelica.
Sandra was an avid TV bingo player. She loved to cook and clean. She
would go visit her friends and family and just start cleaning. Sandra
worked as an adult care worker for a few years as well. She would
take pictures whenever she could, joked around with friends and just
loved to laugh or make us laugh. Sandra adored spending time with her
grandchild, Martha Elizabeth.
Visitation will be at the family home at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6 at
Ben Peck Sr.'s home on 6 Church Loop, Wagmatcook. The funeral will be
held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Kateri Tekawitha
Church, Wagmatcook with Fr. Ajit officiating. Burial at the Queen of
the World Cemetery.
Special thanks to Anna K., Vera and Audrey for catering, Kim Denny

Blanch Clark, 79 of Glace Bay passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011
at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice
(Tucker) Richards. Blanch was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, whose greatest joy was her family. She loved
knitting and crocheting for them.
She is survived by daughters, Linda (John) Clark, Springhill, Yvonne
(Doug) MacQueen, Port Morien, Dale Clark, London, Ont.; sons, Albert
(Elinor), Broughton, George (Judy) Cornerbrook, Nfld. Also surviving
are grandchildren, Charlee, Gail, Alex, Darren, Steve, Matthew,
Jessica and great-grandchildren, Jamal, Tyrese, Eli, Darnell; sister,
Bernice (Eric) Journeay and brother, Stan (Wilena) Richards.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marcilin and brother, Roy.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Monday,
Nov. 7, 2011, 2 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay
with CSM. Fred Courtney officiating. Interment will follow in Forest
Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation,

Genevieve MacEachern

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Genevieve
Louise Alice MacEachern, age 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and
sister on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, Genevieve was the daughter of the late Arthur
Embree and Beatrice (Dearing) Newman. She was a devoted member of St.
Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney and a longtime member of
the church choir and UCW. Gene was always on hand to attend to the
kitchen duties for many of the church functions. She was also a long
time member of Tops organization.
She is survived by her seven children, her sons, Rhindress 'Rhiney'
(Marie), Alan (Kim), Lloyd (Darlene), all of North Sydney, Brian
(Bonnie), Chilliwack, Scott (Loretta), North Sydney and her
daughters, Louise MacEachern, Georges River and Shirley Wilson, North
Sydney; her 10 grandchildren, Rhiney Jr., Kelly, Lenny, Virginia,
Victoria, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Shelley, Dawn Marie and Scottie; six
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; her brother,
Russell (Marina) Newman, North Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rhindress MacEachern; one son,
Leonard MacEachern; three sisters, Grace Brown, Viola Walker, Marie
Bonnar; three brothers, Max, Arthur and Barsley Newman.
The family wish to extend special thanks to Marina Newman and
Lorraine Phalen, for being there when needed and the wonderful care
given to Genevieve.
A private family visitation for Genevieve will be held from 2-4 p.m.
on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North
Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew
Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial in
Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

A memorial service for the late Pearl (Hillman) Ross, who passed away
Sept., 2, 2011, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at
Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney. A reception will be
held at the funeral home, followed by interment in Forest Haven
Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road.

Kenneth Dan MacLeod, of Cherry Street (formerly, Royal Avenue,
Sydney) passed away, at home, Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, surrounded by
his loving family and one of his special caregivers.
Born in Jubilee, Victoria County, he was a son of the late Malcolm J.
and Christy Ann (MacRitchie) MacLeod.
Throughout his years, he worked for Bell Telephone, MT&T and Sydney
Steel, from which he retired in 1973. He was the oldest member of the
Dominion Steelworker's Mutual Benefit Society. Kenny was a long-time
member of the Westminster Bible Presbyterian Church.
He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Annie (MacLeod) MacLeod;
daughters, Christine Trimm, Katherine Ann and a daughter in infancy;
siblings, Dolly, Katie, Malcolm and Rev. Neil.
Left to mourn his passing are grandchildren, Sherry (Steve) Conrad,
Beth (Tom) Lynch, and Jamie Trimm; five great-grandchildren, all of
Halifax; son-in-law, James Trimm, White Rock, B.C.; nieces and
nephews; sisters-in-law, Georgie MacLeod and Archena MacNevin; and
his two special angles from "the rock", Lorna Leaman and Sheila
We, the family, are very grateful for all the support and kindness
received from City Homemakers, VON (Pat Morrison) and Palliative Care
(Sharon Barron).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday
11 a.m., with interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
