Niford, Capt. Wilson Samuel - 81, Riverport, died Sunday, December 15, 1996, in QEII Health Sciences Center, V.G. Site, Halifax. Born in Rose Bay, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late John S. and Minnie R. (Wagner) Niford. He began his sea career serving during the Second World War with the Merchant Marines. After the war he worked with the OK Service boats and then fished until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, and a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Lucy Mosher, daughters Marilyn and husband Harrison Mitchell, Lunenburg; Glenda and husband Gene Sutherland, Lower Sackville; son Robert and wife Jennifer, Indian Path; sister, Mrs. Vivian Leary, Fairview Nursing Home, Halifax; brothers, Colin and Roseville, both of Dartmouth; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Florence Dares. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Interment will be in Shepherds Hill Cemetery, Riverport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church or to any other charity.
