I just want to say thank you so very much to you all. You are a great bunch.
For Julie McLeod, do not worry about the picture, as I already have received a copy of the gravestone, but it was kind of you to do that.
To the people who asked me for more specific information, I am sorry. I guess one lives so close to it, that you just forget, what you know is not common knowledge. So here goes, and I hope I do not bore anyone--you can always skip the email.
Alexander Anderson was born November 1836, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. - Father, William Anderson, and Mother, Janet Sneddon.
Janet Morton was born, 15 Aug 1840, Newmilns, Ayrshire, Scotland. Father, James Morton, and ,Agnes Loudoun.
Alexander and Janet were married 25 May 1863, Newmilns, Ayrshire, Scotland, and left almost immediately afterward for Canada.
They settled on a farm listed in the National Archives as the following:
Chesley - Elderslie Twp. in Bruce County
Alex Anderson - on page 52 of Div. 3 - Film no. - C - 9937 - Tenants on Lot 28 - 1 Conc.
While there they had the following children:
Agnes - born 19 Feb 1864, she never married.
William - born 4 Apr 1866 - m. Catherine Derby - 17 May 1895. Moved to Melville, Sask.where he had a Hardware Store. Died and is buried in Melville, Sask.
Jessie Sneddon- b. 12 Feb 1868 m. Andrew Geddes - 28 Feb 1894.moved to Manitoba.
James - b. 24 Jun 1870, m. Gertrude B. Broadwood, - 28 Feb 1894. moved to Binscarth, Man. and later Gladstone, Man. where
he had a Hardware Store, Then moved to Star City, Sask, where he had a Tinsmith business. Died in 1942 and is buried at Star City, Sask.
Alexander (Sandy) - b. 24 Nov. 1873. He moved to Russell, Man. and later Melville, Sask, and was in the tinsmith business. m. A. Smith.
Alexander (Sr.) died 8 Mar 1874. According to a Certificate I have from the Ontario Government the place of Death is Chesley, Bruce Co.
>From the List of marriages, Janet (Morton) Anderson, married #001380, William Boyd, of the Twp. of Brant, on 6 Oct 1882 Chesley, Ont.- Presbyterian.
They(William and Janet) had one child ,William Boyd, Jr.
William had been married previously also, and I think his first wife's name was Margaret Smith. She (Margaret) died in 1882.
I do not know what William Boyd for did for a living, but I think he farmed. Also not absolutely certain where they lived. Although somewhere I saw something about him being a carpenter. I do not know where, or when he died.
After William Boyd died, Janet (Morton)(Anderson) Boyd moved to Melville, Sask, to be near her son William. She lived there the rest of her life. She died the 14 Feb 1931. Her body was brought back to Chesley, and she is buried there, along with her daughter Agnes Anderson, and a granddaughter Alexa.
I don't know whether all the above is any help to anyone, but those are the details, as I have them. They are pretty accurate, from marriage and death records, and the family Bible, etc.
My information on the Andersons is reasonably complete, but have never really followed up on the Boyds.
I am the granddaugher of James, and was raised in Star City by James and his wife Gertrude, my mother died when I was very young. Norman, their son was my father.
There you have a lot of my family history, which I am certain, most of you just couldn't live without. Seriously, I hope I haven't bored you all with my request about trying to find my greatgrandfather's grave.
Once again, a great big thank you for all the suggestions.
Georgiana
