Hi Jeannie
Ottawa was originally called Bytown (so it was a town I guess) and was
renamed to the City of Ottawa on January 1, 1855.
I know the border between Upper and Lower Canada changed but I don't know
when. The only indication I have is that my great grandfather was listed as
being born in Ontario 1851 but his sister was listed as born in Quebec 1859.
So 1855 may have been when they moved the border as well.
