I have noticed recently on the list, some interest in Bowesville. I have no connection to this area..but as it happens, today, I was reading the book CARLETON SAGA, (1968) and on page 181 came across this quote that may help those that are connected:
..reference is to ' Development of Uplands Airport' : here is the exact quote from the book...!
"Gloucester township co-operated fully into the ensuring of the large scale expropriation of 1950-51. The development took place along the Bowesville Road, and the historic old village of Bowesville was demolished. Churches, schools, stores and houses were bulldozed into the landscape. The 65 bodies of the pioneer folk in the cemetery were transferred by the Department of Transport to other burying grounds-mostly at Pinecrest. Over what was once the village stands a large hangar....."
There are a few other references in the the book to Bowesville...such as on page 193: "It was once a lovely place nestling in a rolling country side"
Just thought I would add these comments to aid in the discussion.........
Regards,
Judy
