Hi Jim and David:
I had a look at the census and checked the marriage record for James Reid. It gives his mother as M. Evans on the marriage registration. On the census, I believe it is Annie L. I checked for birth records and found 2 for the family. Both were declarations given years later by the children themselves with information from the family bible. On both records the parents were given as Thomas Reid and Annie Lee (or L.) Evans. One was for son, George, and the other for daughter, Martha. James gave one of the declarations. If you are sure of the Carlin name for Asa's mother, seems as though this isn't the right family. Wouldn't be surprised if they are related though.
Back to the drawing board :)
Lynne.
P.S. Think I have checked all variations for a birth for Asa but will give it another try.
