My dad, Robert George CAMPBELL's first Scottish great grandmother, Anne
KEITH, was born on Islay, 21 Dec 1805, and lived, with her husband Dugald
CAMPBELL, first in Barrie for about 10 years where he as a tailor. They then
lived on the Duntroon 5 acre lots until they claimed crown land just across
the county border in Grey County circa 1845 at S. 1/2, Lot 19, Con. 2,
Craigleith, Collingwood Twp., Grey Co. She had 10 children. The farm land
was sold as chalet lots for Blue Mountain ski resort in the 1960's. The farm
stead was finally sold off when the last great grandson passed away in 2007.
It is just down the road from the main lodge of Blue Mountain resort.
His other Scottish great grandmother, Mary McDOUGALL was also born on Islay
in 06 Nov 1815. She came first to Thorah Twp, Ontario County, on Lake
Simcoe's east coast circa 1832. She came to Simcoe County, 23 Mar 1838 when
she married Malcolm CURRIE after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth
(Betsey) McDERMID b. abt 1811, who died bearing his first child Laughlin
CURRIE, b. Feb 19, 1838. Mary lived in Lagmore, the family farm at the South
1/2 of lot 33, Con. 12, Nottawasaga Twp., Simcoe Co. until her death on 06
Oct 1896. Therefore, she lived to be 81 years old. She bore 8 children, one
was my great grandmother, Flora CURRIE (CAMPBELL). Another was Hugh
Archibald CURRIE who became the mayor of Collingwood in 1910.
