Can someone tell me how many active lodges there are now in Ontario -
in Ontario East and Ontario West? And, approximately how many
Orangemen this represents?
I understand that the largest concentration of Orangemen in Ontario
East (that's Bowmanville east) would be around Bowmanville, Port Perry
and then around Ottawa. I was just trying to do some math and
thinking there are probably less than 5,000. Maybe there aren't that
many in all of Ontario.
In Ontario West I imagine the greatest number are in Toronto.
I recently heard that the number of active lodges and Orangemen in
Ontario has declined to the extent that Newfoundland now has more
than in all of Ontario.
I also understand that there are fewer Orangemen in the western
provinces of Alberta and B.C. than there are in Nova Scotia.
Anyone also know about the situation out west?
There do, however, seem to be signs of a revival of interest in
Orangeism. As more Canadians look into their roots and the several
million who had Orange ancestors find this out it leads many to
inquire about Orangeism.
This may lead some to contact the Orange Association or a local Orange
Lodge asking for information and some of these to become members of
the organization that their parents or grandparents once belonged. I
have even been contacted on the internet by some of these looking for
this information.
