Subject: Next Lieutenant Governor of Ontario

As Canadian Orangemen have supported the Monarchy, I thought some
List Members might be interested in this message which I recently
received. Apparently, Bob Rae, former NDP Premier of Ontario, is
being talked about as that province's next Queen's representative.
However, his treatment of the monarchy and the Royal link during his
time as Premier raises questions as mentioned in the letter below.

>First, the Ontario government he headed eliminated the oath to the

>public servants -- in whose ranks the governor-general stands
first --
>affirm their loyalty to the sovereign in order to show their
>non-partisanship and devotion to duty?
>
>Second, when Mr. Rae asked in a book review in 1998, "What does the
>monarchy really have to do with us any more? No harm in having them
as
>heads of the Commonwealth, but as kings and queens of Canada?" was he
>stating a republican position, or merely asking a rhetorical
question? As

>take up Her Majesty's commission, and so serve with the enthusiastic
>support and good wishes of all Canadians.
