WEST SPRINGFIELD - Joseph Jean Paul Brodeur, 70, a long time resident of
West Springfield and winter resident of Briny Breeze, FL, passed away
Wednesday at his Bear Hole Rd. home. He was born March 17, 1934 in Holyoke
to the late Donat and Alice (Meunier) Brodeur of Quebec, Canada, and was a
graduate of Cathedral High School. He furthered his education by attending
and graduating in 1961 from Western New England College with his Bachelors
degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at WNEC, he was the class president,
a member of the Mechanical Engineering Club, Sigma Beta Tau, and was on the
student council. After his graduation from Western New England College, he
worked for United Technologies in Connecticut for his entire career as a
mechanical engineer and project manager until his retirement in 1996. He
proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Army, being
honorably discharged as a Specialist Third Class, earning the Good Conduct
Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. While in the Army, in France,
he was a French translator. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle
Church, an active volunteer for the Jimmy Fund, and with the H.L.A.
Registry. He was also an avid supporter of Katelynn's Ride. Joseph was an
avid walker, and traveled North America by R.V. He leaves his devoted
children, Robert Brodeur, Michele Battista and her husband Domenic all of
West Springfield. Joseph also leaves his loving sisters, Lucille Langlois of
West Longbranch, NJ, Doris Brodeur of Longmeadow, 6 cherished grandsons,
Brian, Christopher and Luke Battista, Robbie, Kyle and Cody Broduer, his
first wife, Patricia D. Brodeur, a niece and several nephews. He was
predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Katelynn Battista in 1997. The
funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. from the Toomey-O'Brien
Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St. West Springfield, with the Liturgy of
Christian Burial to follow in St. Thomas the Apostle Church. The family will
receive friends Monday from 4-8 p.m. Donation in memory of Mr. Brodeur may
be directed to the Jimmy Fund Western Mass. Office, 171 Park Ave. West
Springfield, MA 01089.
