Claude Lavoie
CHAMPLAIN - Claude Lavoie was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 21, 1925.
He passed on, on the first of August, 2004, from a long struggle with M.S.
He was the son of the late Paul and Laura (Hinerth) Lavoie of Champlain.
Claude graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1944. Then following he
volunteered and joined the Army Air Corp. for pilot training for 3 years.
Upon his return in 1946, he married Oreina Remiland at St. Mary's Church in
Champlain. After 53 years of marriage he was predeceased by his wife in
January 1999.
Throughout his life he was involved in many organizations and served for his
community. Claude was the first Grand Knight of Council 3525 of Champlain
for the Knights of Columbus and was also a fourth degree member of the
Knights from Plattsburgh Assembly. In addition, he was a 50 year member of
the American Legion and a member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks. In 1958
he was elected Justice of the Peace for the Town of Champlain for a
four-year term. During his lifetime, Claude worked for the Plattsburgh
National Bank, owned and operated his own hardware and appliance store and
worked at Champlain Valley Federal Savings and Loan Bank. Then there after
he retired from Harris Corporation in 1974 due to the continuing disease
process of MS.
Claude is survived by an uncle, Ernest Lavoie; and cousins, Raymond and
Stanley Lavoie, Berna Badger and Donna Carpenter, and their children.
There will be no calling hours. Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in
Champlain at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. Burial will follow at St. Mary's
Cemetery on Prospect Street, Champlain.
In his memory donations may be made to the Champlain Rescue Squad.
Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain
