Hello'
For those of you wishing to find the homesteading documents of family
all you have to do is write the Saskatchwan Archives. I did this 2 years
ago and explained in layman's terms about where various ancestors lived
and they sent me copies of the original documents. The bill was about
$6.00 for over 20 sheets. This past summer I visited the Archives and
got to handle the originals. The staff were wonderful.

My understanding is that the Saskatoon office of the Archives also holds
provincial Department of Agriculture grant and homestead files after
1930. Copies of the patents for grants, and records of subsequent
transactions are located in the 8 district Land Titles offices.
MICROFILM copies of the homesteads are available at the Regina Archives,
University of Regina, Regina, Sask., S4S 0A2
If you are trying to figure out when and where you ancestors arrived in
Canada contact the National Archives, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N3 You must
prove they have been dead for 20 years or have their signature that
gives their permission. You can find this on the net and send that way
also.

Before Jan. 1, 1947, immigrants from Great Britain and the COmmonwealth
did not need to be naturalized, others did. Originals from 1854 to 1917
were destroyed but a nominal index survived. Write Citizenship and
Immigration Canada, Public Rights Administration, 300 Slater St. ,3rd
Floor Section D,Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 1L1
Hope some of this is helpful,
