Hi Dana,

You may want to check out the historical book, The Hands of Time, which is now on-line in full context, except the grid map, at:

http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=3613

The Shabits and Shabbits surname can be found, starting at page 656. The Shabbits were members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ located two miles north of Tiny, Sask. See. p. 136 for more details.

My wife's grandfather, Dan Zaplitney was on the church's first committee in 1913 and thereafter for 30 years.

Joe and Nellie Karpick's writeup is found on p. 434.

Check out the Homesteaders website at http://www.saskhomesteads.com/ to search for the Shabbits, etal as the original homesteaders. I have a copy of the 1913 Land Owners grid map should you want me to locate a homestead - I can scan the map and send you what you are looking for.

Also check out the 1906 and 1911 Census at http://automatedgenealogy.com/census06/index.html

I have found that the homesteaders' surnames were misspelled on an on-going basis, so try different variations.
