Subject: 1901 Census -- Anyone Desiring A Challenge? Claim A Page of History!!

This really has nothing to do with the 1911 census; but the 1901 census
index needs transcribing at
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html it takes about 20
minutes to index a Yukon page. So if you know of any volunteers, it
would help, others doing research.

=============
The above query was received from JoAnne so I started my own search
for YUKON listings. I did some inventive sleuthing and found listings,
but many have yet to be claimed and transcribed.
Go to the following site -- same as one given by JoAnne:-
http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html

Click on 1901 in upper right hand corner, then open up the 1901 index.

At this time in history, prior to the 1906 census, the alignment of the
provinces and territories had yet to be approved -- the 1906 was the
first census following approval. Since then, there is yet another change --
NUNAVUT was part of the North-West Territories and any early
names in NWT would include early settlers of Nunavut.

The 1901 listing includes:- British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick,
Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, The Territories.
[Only New Brunswick and Nova Scotia completed to date]

THE TERRITORIES has five listings:- Brandon, Alberta, Assiniboia
(East/Est), Assiniboia (West/Ouest), Saskatchewan and Unorganized
Territories with only Saskatchewan District completed.

MANITOBA has the following: Brandon, Lisgar, MacDonald, Marquette,
Provencher, Selkirk, Winnipeg, -- with MacDonald District completed.

Readers will see the boundaries have changed -- check for a 1901
map of Canada -- then find a 1906 one -- with 60th Parallel in place,
just as the 49th Parallel divides Canada and United States.

In the "Unorganized Territories" one will find Yukon and many
Steamboat listings. Notes include many items as "miner", etc.

Let's try to complete Canada for 1901, 1906 and hopefully, very
soon, the 1911 Canadian census records.
