Robert 'Bob' Carter
Robert "Bob" Carter, 73, formerly of Toledo, died June 16, 2005 at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was born to parents Charles and Inez Carter on April 20, 1932 in Centralia, Washington.
He spent his early years in Mossyrock, Ore. and the family moved to Toledo where he spent his latter school years. At a young age, he started working with his father in the family logging business in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. He served with the 7th Armored Division of the U.S. Army as a radio operator from 1952 to 1954.
He married Theresa "Terry" Charity on June 21, 1958 in Calgary, Alberta. The couple moved to Newport and their son and daughter were born there. They moved to Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan in 1962, and in 1964, their nephew joined the family. In 1966 their youngest son was born in Saskatchewan.
Mr. Carter began his final job in 1974 with Saskatchewan Forest Product, and worked as a tradesman there for 23 years, retiring in 1997.
He volunteered at the Seniors Friendship Center and the Saskatoon Food Bank, and was a member of the Elks, the Legion and the Lions Clubs. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gun smithing, coin collecting and was an avid pool player. He enjoyed dedicating himself to time with family and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Hildamay and Delores.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Theresa; daughter and her husband, Debbie and Darryl; sons and their wives, Terry and Kim, Fred and Bev, and Ted and Brenda; nephew and his wife, Dennis and Amy and family; brother and his wife, Irving and Maxine; sister and her husband, Nancy and Ray; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeff, Tim, Jessica, Roseanna, Anthony, Danny, Samantha and Jared; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Lailani, Aisha and Mackenzie.
Service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2005 at St. Stephen's United Church. Interment followed in the St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his memory are suggested to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Blair's Funeral Home Ltd. Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan handled arrangements.
