Dear Jerry

Re the lack of records for Rosa and John Skeates after their marriage in 1889 I found a record for the death of a John Skeates while I was looking for "my" John Skeates:-

John Skeates died June quarter 1899 Pewsey, Wiltshire age 32 years (born c1867) volume 5a page 107

I couldn't find a death record for Rosa Chamberlain-Skeates. In the 1901 census (England) I found a William Skeates aged 9 and an Albert Skeates aged 4 living with their grandparents Alfred and Jane Skeates in Chute, Wiltshire - I know William matches your one but Albert does not match, unfortunately!! You'd think that with such an unusual surname they would be easy to find - it's quite amazing the different spellings the census enumerators come up with!

I wonder if the boys were sent out to Canada on one of the apprentice type schemes, or if Rosa re-married and then emigrated?

Hope this is helpful

Best wishes

Lindsay
