Subject: [CCC] Post-1901 Census -- Some things are not perfect
Date: Sun, 13 Apr 2003 00:44:25 -0400

To all:-

This evening I sent short memos to Senators who were
perched "on the fence" - hoping when it was time to vote,
their vote would be POSITIVE.

Some may not understand what I meant --

To vote against Bill S-13, would take us back to well-known
Square One -- without any possible access to census
records. The vote must pass in the Senate and then in
the House of Commons IF anyone ever wishes to view
records for research.

I have studied Bill S-13 -- it is not a perfect bill, but better
than what has been achieved since 1999. Many have
personal views and these can mushroom into a large
cloud if continued.

Please, remain positive, accept the victory we have achieved
and hope for future bills to get rid of leftover bits and pieces.

Members of the Canada Census Committee have worked hard,
and criticism at this stage could undo what has been
accomplished -- the largest grassroots campaign -- and many
of us do not know each other, except by telephone.

I will accept the personal criticism of myself -- but not of Bill S-13
and the one who presented it - by invitation.

Muriel M. Davidson
Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee
