This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to
this mailing list.
I am interested in your list and also info of your
book, The McIntosh's, ...
------------------------------------------------------
I normally don't post to the Rootsweb lists anymore,
but am compelled to now. However, I don't want anyone
else to be a victim of fraud. I was burned by Maggie
Peters, the alleged author of THE MCINTOSH'S. The
primary source for her material are the Rootsweb lists
themselves. This I learned from purchasing her
"book." In it I found a posting I sent to the
MCINTOSH mailing list. Not the info I sent, mind you,
but the actual e-mail verbatim! In short, plagiarism.
Mine wasn't the only post to be lifted from the
MCINTOSH archives. There were several others. When I
publicly told the MCINTOSH list, I was unsubscribed by
the moderator because many people didn't understand
why I was making such a big fuss. I wasn't
complaining about the sharing of info. That's what
these lists are for. I objected to the downloading of
any e-mails for the express purpose of compiling them
to sell. The Rootsweb rules strictly forbid this
practice. I intend to mail a copy of her book and
copies of the archives she put in her "book" to the
Rootsweb lawyers because her actions poison the
purpose for these types of lists. It is because of my
experience with her that I'm no longer active with the
lists. I just view.
Below are a few items I found using google to search
Maggie Peters:

It reads:
AN APOLOGY
Apologies go out to our Canadian volunteers who were
hit with a spam message this month. I wrote to the
individual who was responsible for the spam letting
her know to cease and desist sending mail to the
volunteers at RAOGK. Needless to say she wrote back,
indicating that she had only sent the message to "your
volunteer" (indicating only one volunteer received the
spam). Our server logs indicate different. If you
received the spam from Maggie Peters using the e-mail
address regarding McIntosh
families in Canada since December
22, 2002, please advise me at .
