BARKER, Adelaide Marriott With sadness we announce the passing of Marriott
on May 12th, 2007 after a short illness. She was born in South Shields,
England, married Philip Barker, a banker with Bank of Montreal. After
retirement in London, they moved to Victoria where they spent many happy
years. Philip died in 1998. Marriott had many interests: a love of tennis,
gardening and animals. She kept in touch with family and friends both near
and far with letters and phone calls. Marriott was the last surviving member
of her family. She will be fondly remembered by Alice Lunny, sister-in-law
of Montreal, Lillian Gowland, niece, and LeeAnne Amaral, great niece, both
of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Lise O'Brian of Montreal, second cousin to
Philip, her many friends here and overseas, and a true friend Jerry Justesen
of Victoria. A memorial Service will be held at Church of Our Lord,
Victoria, BC on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Church of Our Lord would be appreciated. 376399

BENNETT, Jonathan December 26, 1923 June 3, 2007 Jonathan Bennett left his
beloved mountain and started the rest of his journey June 3, 2007. Johnny
was born on Salt Spring Island and remained there for all his life, except a
brief period in Alberta where he met and married his loving wife of 62
years. He is predeceased by his sister June Stevens and daughter Lynn Brand
and survived by wife Ellen, daughter Barbara Pellerin (Lyn), son Randy
(Sunny), daughters Jeanie Fargher (Michael), Carol Simpson (Michael) and
Marla Cole (Chris); sisters Evelyn Lee and Mary Mollet; thirteen
grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who will remember their Grampa
"Bonk" as will the many "not related" who called him Grampa because they
loved him and felt like family; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended
family. Johnny will be remembered by everyone who passed through his life
during his 23 years with BC Ferries as a deckhand and 2nd Mate at Long
Harbour and 1st Mate at Fulford. Johnny was a member of the Salt Spring
Island Rod and Gun club for 48 years and enjoyed many things during his
life. He was a hunter, logger, innovator, storyteller, historian, butcher,
rock-cutter, clock maker, dancer and educator. Many a grandchild started out
for a walk with Grampa and ended up with a lesson on grasses, trees and
wildlife. It was often said that he could add faster in his head than many
of us could with a calculator. This was a complex man whose many talents
will be remembered. He will be missed by all who loved him and will live on
in our memories, bringing joy to our hearts in the years to come when we
recount his stories, the poems he loved and his many adventures. Memorial
tea this Saturday, June 9th, Fulford Community Hall, Salt Spring Island,
1:00-4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to
your favourite charity. 376503

Wolkosky provided a wonderful compassionate father for her children and a
lasting friendship that survived their later breakup. In 1981 she met Brian,
who remained her soul-mate to the end. Reaching her career stride in the
1970's, she found employment over the years with a variety of theatre
companies and post-secondary institutions in BC and Alberta. Prior to,
