POSCENTE, Mary Angeline It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing
of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Angeline Poscente, on October
27, 2007 in Victoria, BC. We rejoice in knowing that she will forever be
with the love of her life, Tony. Mary was born and raised in Nelson, BC on
May 13, 1924 to Raphael and Loretta Camparoni. When she was a toddler, after
the death of her father, her mother remarried to Pete Sacco. Her marriage to
Antonio Poscente in 1948 brought her to Trail, BC, where they raised their
family and lived for over 51 years. In 1999, due to our father's health, a
move was made to Victoria. Mary had been in Victoria, with her daughters,
since his passing in 2000. Mary was truly an Italian momma. She lived for
her family and the family meant everything to her. Any kindness shown her
was returned ten fold. Mary was an unassuming woman of many talents. This
extended from her beautifully handmade crochet pieces to her many lovingly
made Italian feasts, which were envied and well known to many family
members. Not many people know that, as a young girl, she studied the piano
for 9 years. Whatever artistic talents we have, we owe to her. Mary was
predeceased by her parents, her stepfather and her husband Tony. She is
survived by her daughters, Dorothy, Irene (Bob) Bainas, Louise (Gary)
Thurber and Jean (D'Arcy) Parrott. Her pride and joy was her grandson, James
Anthony Parrott. Momma, we will carry you and dad in our hearts forever.
Watch over us always. Funeral service will be held at MCCALL BROS. FAMILY
CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, Victoria, BC on Friday, November 2,
2007 at 1:30 pm with interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park. Donations
may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #107 1001 Cloverdale Avenue,
Victoria, BC, V8X 4C9. Condolences may be offered to the family at

THORSEN, Jan Oct. 18, 1932 Oct. 26, 2007 Jan passed away peacefully at his
home in Victoria after fighting lung cancer for more than eight years. He
died only because he had to. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary
College (OVC) in 1955, Jan worked in Nigeria for Her Majesty's Overseas
Service, then in a mixed practice out of Edmonton. Realizing his interests
lay more in research and teaching, he earned a PhD in Medical Virology at
the University of Toronto, and joined the faculty at OVC as a professor of
veterinary medicine. Jan is survived and adored by his wife, Ruth Slavin,
his daughters, Lisa and her partner, Tom Barker, of Hobart, Tasmania, and
Michele, of San Francisco; his brother, John, of Toronto and wife Beth; and
stepdaughters Christina McKibbon, her husband, John and son, Nicholas, and
Jennifer Laing and sons, James and Robin, all of Windsor, Ontario. He will
be greatly missed by his large extended family and many friends, including
the members of the Vancouver Island Scottish Country Dance Society. A
memorial service will be held at St. Martins Inthe-Field church hall, 550
Obed Street, Victoria at 2:00, Wednesday, October 31. Bring your dancing
shoes. Flowers are gratefully declined, but Jan's favourite charity is

WALLNER, John Elmer (Tony) You passed in the season so dear to your heart.
The fall dress of autumn is yours for always. Born August 9, 1925 in Swift
Current, Saskatchewan and died October 23, 2007 in Victoria. Tony was a
depression era prairie kid, World War II veteran, and businessman. Husband
to Iris, his loving wife of 59 years. Dad to Elaine and Ross (Brenda). Papa
to Ami Elizabeth, Addison and Emberly. Brother to Irene Arrell, Ruth Logan
(John) and Donna. Uncle to his nieces and nephews Plantsman, nurseryman,
with a spiritual reverence and love for nature, in his beloved Church of the
Outdoors feeding the birds or in a garden Tony was happy. He liked humour,
jokes and would laugh until he cried. Interest in history, current events,
travel and hockey, and a shovel with a dog by his side, planting something,
dancing, parties, receiving his thoughtful gifts, and story telling leave
fondest memories. Moving to Victoria from Vancouver in 1964, Tony owned and
operated Cedar Hill Nurseries and Garden Centre for many years with the
support of Iris, his wife and teammate. He is remembered for his
contribution in the retail garden centre business and in his generosity to
community. His life's work and the 'farm' he loved so much were so hard to
relinquish as declining health took its toll. He sustained dreams of doing
business, and best he could was talking plants, sharing his knowledge and
reading garden catalogues into his last days forever the optimist. The
family wishes to thank all who contributed to his care over the last few
years with special thanks and gratitude to the kind and wonderful people
along the way who extended warmth, tender care and kindness beyond the call.
We extend our appreciation for the Activities Program at the Lodge at
Broadmead. Memorial Service at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street,
