BHALLA, Tara January 19, 1930 January 26, 2007 It is with great sadness that
we mourn the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and friend,
Tara Singh Bhalla, in his 77th year. Tara passed away peacefully at Royal
Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy and courageous
battle with prostate cancer. Tara was born in Victoria, BC to Partapi Kaur
and Khurma Singh, who had emigrated to Canada from the Punjab, India in
1914. He will be sadly missed by Sela, his beloved wife of 57 years; his
adoring children, Munjeet (John), Jeety (Sara) and Jindy (Angela); his three
lovely granddaughters (Christina, Nikki and Sara); a large extended family
and by many close friends and colleagues. His grandchildren were an
especially great joy to him. Tara was known for his compassion and
generosity, and for his unfailing integrity throughout his many years as a
successful businessman in Victoria. Tara had a wonderful sense of humour and
enjoyed socializing with both young and old. While he loved to travel, he
always considered Victoria to be the best possible place to live. His spirit
will be treasured by everyone that he has touched over the years both here
and abroad. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and
appreciation to the doctors and staff at the BC Cancer Agency, the Prostate
Cancer Team of the U.S. National Cancer Institute, and nurses Lea Latham and
Gail Byers for their considerate care of Tara. We are also profoundly
grateful for the support and comfort from his many friends and extended
family. A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL,
Johnson at Vancouver Street on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In
Tara's memory and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the BC Cancer

BISHOP, Dorothy Vivian (nee Brenan) Born May 20, 1921 in Toronto, Ont.,
passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2007 in Victoria, B.C. She was
pre-deceased by the love of her life, her husband Cyril in 1988. Dorothy is
survived by her beloved brother Thomas Brenan (Patricia) of Campbell River,
B.C. She is lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, all
their children and her many faithful friends. Dorothy met and married Cyril
in England where she moved to in 1932. She apprenticed at Hannington's
Department Store in Brighton, where she learned her flair for fashion. At
the outbreak of war, she served with a subsidiary of the Canadian Legion
until the end of WWII. They returned to Canada in 1949. In Toronto she had
an interesting career in politics, being elected or appointed to many
municipal governing boards. She and Cyril took early retirements and moved
to B.C. Dorothy was a respected and devoted volunteer in her new community.
She worked tirelessly for years on the Board of Variance for the City of
Victoria. She was a talented artist, writer, loved to garden, and she
travelled the world. Her lifelong interest in genealogy left a legacy for
her family. Thirty years of research uncovered a family history of ancestors
dating back over four centuries. Dorothy loved life. She bravely soldiered
through serious health issues that would have felled those less determined.
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of her life was in 2002, when she was
recognized for all her volunteer efforts and was invited to luncheon with
Queen Elizabeth. Dorothy was well loved for her warm, kind and generous
spirit. We are grateful to her for sharing her life with us. A celebration
of her life will be held on Feb. 24th, 2007, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the
Officers Club in Naden, 586 Esquimalt Rd., CFB Esquimalt, Victoria B.C. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to the Victoria
Hospice Society. 335897
