CZUBOKA, Walter Passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, Friday,
March 9, 2007, with his family at his side. Walter was born on June 13, 1917
in Brandon, Manitoba. His mother passed away shortly after Walter was born
and he then lived with his aunt and cousins in Justice, Manitoba until his
father remarried in 1930. His father was soon taken ill and Walter became
the head of household for his step-mother and two young half-brothers. He
received his early education in Justice and attended high school at Forest,
Manitoba. In 1940 he enlisted in the RCAF, was made a flying officer and was
sent overseas where he flew in the Coastal Command completing 52 missions on
U-boat patrol over the Atlantic. While stationed at St. Eval, Cornwall, he
met Mabel, who was a radio operator in the RAF at the same base. They were
married shortly after on March 23, 1944. Walter continued to support his
family back home while making a new life with his wife in Cornwall, England
and working as a firefighter at Newquay. In 1953 they moved to Rivers,
Manitoba, where he worked at the air force base and they raised their three
children. In 1965 they moved to B.C. where Walter took up a career in retail
management which took him to several communities around B.C. until his
retirement in 1982. They then settled in Nanaimo where they resided until
recently moving to Victoria. He loved to dance, tell stories and jokes,
golf, and especially enjoyed a game of bridge or cribbage. Most of all,
Walter was a family man enjoying family vacations, special family
celebrations, picnics at the beach or taking a Sunday drive for an ice
cream. Nothing delighted him more in later years than a visit from the
family. He will be remembered with great love by his wife of 63 years;
Mabel, son Frank (June) of Penticton, daughters Susan (Wayne) of Saanichton,
and Shirley (Doug) of Vancouver; grandchildren, Nadine, Sandy, Denise,
Bonnie & Mike: 6 greatgrandchildren and brothers Mike (Helena) of Winnipeg
and Bill of Ottawa. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Royal
Jubilee Hospital, Royal 2 wing, for their compassionate care and the staff
at Highgate Lodge for providing a kind and loving environment during
Walter's final months. A celebration of Walter's life will be held at First
Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Friday, March 16
at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the Garden Room. If desired

HINKS, Dylan Think of Me Then On a day of rain when you sit indoors By the
fire with a book, as I loved to do, And the storm wind roars Think of me
then. As you walk by the shore when the sun is high And the sea is blue, as
I loved to do, And the seagulls cry Think of me then. When you're skimming
stones in the fading light Choosing them smooth, as I loved to do, And they
skip out of sight Think of me then. When you sit in the garden in summer and
keep Watch with the night, as I loved to do Go to sleep, Dream of me then.
