BLORE, Oswald Keith" Keith never liked the name Oswald and like most of his
brothers went by his second name. It is believed that Keith was born on the
homestead near Craigmyle, Alberta. His parents were Josiah Edward Blore and
Helen Massey both of the Midlands of England. He was born the day after
Christmas on December 26, 1920. He attended the local school only a mile or
so from the farm. He graduated from grade eight, in July of 1935. In 1936 he
completed Literature, Composition, History, Algebra and General Science at
Surprise School and received a certificate from the Deputy Minister of
Education. In 1939 he completed a course in Diesel Engineering. In 1942 he
became an apprentice mechanic. He worked in garages in Barhead and Red Deer
in the late 1930's then continued to gain a certificate as a welder in 1946.
During the Second World War he worked at Bowden Airport fixing damaged
aircraft for the Commonwealth Training School. After the war he became a
mechanic again in Red Deer. He moved to Victoria in 1967 and joined the
staffs of Ensign Motors and Saunders and Hitchman. For a short time he
operated his own service station in Victoria. His final job was as a parts'
jockey for Metro-Toyota. Keith was truly a Mr. Fix It" he could work on any
piece of machinery, or do any electrical, plumbing or carpenter work. Keith
loved volunteering at the British Columbia Aviation Museum. He really
enjoyed the comradeship of the men he worked with. He was predeceased by his
loving wife Ellen on November 23, 1998 after 56 years of marriage. They were
wed in a small ceremony in Red Deer on February 6, 1942. Their reception was
held at his eldest brother's home in Red Deer, with only six people in
attendance and a nephew with the measles. His passing is mourned by his
nephews, Bill, Dave, Alan, Cassey, a niece, Audrey and Bill's and Alan's
wives, Clare and Jean. Keith will be missed by his many friends and
relatives. He is survived by three sisters-inlaw, Ethel, Emily and Lora as
well as Ellen's many nephews and nieces. He was a wonderful person to have
as a friend and a very concerned uncle. Memorial Service will be held at the
British Columbia Aviation Museum, 1910 Norseman, Sidney, B.C. on Friday, May
18, 2007 at 2:30p.m. Instead of flowers Keith's family suggests donations
could be made to the British Columbia Aviation Museum, 1910 Norseman,
