BEASON, Linda Eileen (nee Bemister) January 8, 1951 May 15, 2007 After a
long and brave battle with her illness, Linda Eileen Beason died at home in
Nanaimo, BC on May 15, 2007, surrounded by her family. She is survived by
her loving husband of 23 years, Rob Beason, children Dawn and Bill (Kim)
Teasdale, grandchildren Taiton and Ashlynn, parents Buss and Freda Bemister,
sister Susie (Bill) Constable, brothers Garry (Dianne) and Jamie (Sandy)
Bemister, parents-in-law Bonnie and Bob Beason, brothers-in-law Tim (Kathy)
and Rick (Jayne) Beason, and many nieces nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and
friends. Linda was born in Winnipeg in 1951 and moved to Victoria at the the
age of 3, where she grew up in Belmont Park. She attended John Stubbs
Elementary School and Belmont Secondary. Upon entering the workforce she was
a long time employee of the federal government, working for the Department
of National Defense in Esquimalt and, after moving to Nanaimo in 1989, for
the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Linda was the owner and founder of
the Timeless Kennel, the home of champion English Cocker Spaniels. Timeless
was responsible for many Canadian and American champions and beloved family
pets for many dog owners. She was a founding member of the English Cocker
Spaniel Club of Canada, long time member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the
Nanaimo Kennel Club and the BC Cocker Spaniel Club. She became a respected
judge in 1998, when she qualified to judge Sanction Matches, Specialty
Sweepstakes and All-Breed Sweepstakes. She will be missed for her fantastic
sense of humour, fierce loyalty, generosity and love of animals. A
celebration of Linda's life will be held on June 2, 2007 at the home of
Susie and Bill Constable, 1430 Campbell Road, Cobble Hill, BC at 1:00 pm. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation or the Cocker Rescue fund in Linda Beason's name. 372195

BENNETT, Thomas Alexander (Alex) Born in Victoria on February 21, 1922 at
the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Passed away May 22, 2007. Predeceased by his
son, Tom; he leaves to mourn, his wife of 52 years, Rose; David (Patty) and
family; Carol (Bob) and family and Cheryl; stepdaughter, Barb and family;
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad was the great grandson from the
pioneer family from Maple Bay and also from Mayne Island. Dad worked at the
early age of 14 and enjoyed his many adventures of trucking, Heaney's and
Johnston Terminals and Public Freightways. Dad was a good friend to many and
a very respected and loving father. We will miss you Dad. A Funeral Service
will be held at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on

BOUCHARD, Ethel Margaret Jean Passed away peacefully at Glengarry Hospital
on May 19, 2007 at the age of 95. Predeceased by her husband Rene, daughter
Eileen Taylor and son-in-law Ken Spoor, Ethel leaves to mourn her daughter
Yvonne (Ken), seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great, great
grandchildren, sister-in-law Joyce Bouchard and many nieces and nephews. A
service will be held at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on
Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Donations to the Heart and Stroke

CARLE, Wilda Mae (nee Cuthbert) May 10, 1930 May 19, 2007 Passed away at
Glengarry Hospital. Wilda joins her beloved Dick (Capt. Richard Carle RCN)
who she lost in 1972. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Rick
(Ruthi) of Hazelton, BC, her daughter Gail (Kevin Bates) of Campbell River,
and grandchildren Stephanie, Robyn and Chelsea Carle, and Melissa and Alex
Bates. Special thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Glengarry Hospital
for their loving care and attention to Wilda over the last nine years.
Although Wilda was crippled with arthritis and then a stroke a year ago, she
never complained and was always happy to talk with people and play bridge.
No service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your

DENNIS, Dr. Warren A. On May 17, 2007, family and friends said goodbye to
Dr. Warren A. Dennis. "Doc " was well respected in hunting and fishing
fraternities the world over. Born 1921 in Red Wing, Minnesota, his family
soon after settled in Regina, then Calgary where he finished high school.
Serving in the Navy during World War II, he trained in Asdic and was
assigned to a British Submarine. Doc attended MIT, University of Michigan
and the University of Alberta. He practiced Dentistry in Victoria until his
retirement in the mid-seventies, thereafter dabbling in fishing, hunting and
West coast Native Art ... his newest passion. Predeceased by his wife,
Maxine Patricia Dawn in 2002, he leaves his sister Betty Dennis-Lepp of Oak
Harbor, Washington and four children; Des (Bonnie) of Victoria, Deirdre Dawn
(Earl) of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Deane (Lynn) of Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan and Darren (Julie) of Whistler, BC., along with seven
grandchildren and five great grandchildren. All will sorely miss him. A
memorial and reception will be held at the family home Saturday, May 26 2:00
pm for family, friends and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, please make a

DODD, Ajit Singh April 28, 1930 May 17, 2007 Surrounded by his loving
family, Ajit Singh Dodd passed away peacefully at Nanaimo General Hospital
at the age of 77. He was predeceased by his son, Balbinder in 1987 and his
sisters Sawarn and Gurdev. Ajit will be dearly remembered and missed by his
wife, Pritam, son Aqbal (Manpreet), daughter Rashpal (Lakhbir) adoring
grandchildren, Kalbir, Tasha, Gagandeep, Rabina and Preesha. Also he leaves
behind sister Gurbachan, brother Harbhajan, cousins Bakhtawar and Jaswant as
well as many nieces and nephews. Ajit was born in Dandian, India and
immigrated to Canada in 1954. He worked over 37 years in various Island
lumber mills, setting down in Port Alberni where he spent 35 years at the
Somass Mill. Although the family moved to Victoria in 1993, Ajit always
looked forward to visiting his hometown. Memorial services will be held on
Saturday, May 26th at 10:00 am at First Memorial Funeral Services Chapel,
4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, followed by a religious ceremony at the Sikh

DODSWORTH, Charles Thomas Went to be with the Lord May 22, 2007 at the age
of 75 years, following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife Myra
in 2001. Charles is survived by his children Trudy (Welton) Wesley, Leslie
(Carmen) Dodsworth, Stephen (Lisa) Dodsworth and Annette (Jon) Hewitt. He is
also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A Graveside
funeral service will be held Wednesday May 30, 2007 at 3:00 pm at Hatley
Memorial Gardens, 2050 Sooke Road, Victoria, B.C. Clayton's Funeral
Directors, Quesnel and Sands Funeral Home, Victoria entrusted with

DZIOBA, Captain Lawrence (Larry) OMM, CD Passed away peacefully in the Royal
Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. on May 20, 2007. Larry was born in Vita,
Manitoba on 27 August 1932. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy from
Ridgeville, Manitoba as a Cadet at Royal Roads in 1949. His Naval career
spanned thirty eight years and included commands of Her Majesty's Canadian
Ships ALGONQUIN, SAGUENAY, TERRA NOVA, and PROTECTEUR. His last command,
from which he retired in 1987, was that of Base Commander, Canadian Forces
Base Esquimalt (NADEN). He is survived by his loving wife Jo and his sons
Bruce (Patty) and Richard (Alison), daughter Heather (John) and
grandchildren Danielle, Anna, Kate, Peter, Brittanny and Christopher; his
sister Irene and her family, and many friends. A Memorial Service will be
held in St. Paul's Church at 1379 Esquimalt Rd., Esquimalt BC on Tuesday May
29th at 1:30pm with a reception to follow at CFB Esquimalt Wardroom. Flowers

ELROSE, Rosada June 12, 1914 May 16, 2007 Rosada Elrose of Sooke died
peacefully at Sunset Lodge in Victoria on the early morning of May 16th,
2007. Rosada was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Harry and Ada (Parsons)
Hubbard. She was the eldest of eight children. She graduated from Lethbridge
Collegiate and Normal School in Calgary. She married Simon `Sam' Grant
Elrose in 1937. Sam and Rosada moved to Sooke in 1945. Rosada belonged to
numerous community organizations and was well known for her helping ways.
Sam died in 1992 after over 50 years of marriage. She is survived by her
special friend John Bowring and her sisters Pearlie (Pete) Taks and Nancie
(Doug) Havens of Alberta; her children Ada (Ritchie) Birch, Grant Elrose
(Unni), Marj Melville, Melvin (Irene) Elrose; 10 grandchildren; 18 great
grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their extended families across
Canada and the US. A celebration of Rosada's life will be held on Monday,
May 28th, 2007, 11:00am at the Sooke Pentecostal Church, 6851 West Coast
Rd., Sooke, BC. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Rosada's name

EPP, Emma Louise Emma passed away peacefully on May 11, 2007, at the
Victoria General Hospital at age 92. Emma was predeceased by Carl, her
husband of 54 years, and her sister Luella Neufeld. She is survived by her
sisters, Adeline Hulse (Ottawa) and Verna Steele (Delta), a sister-in-law,
Ethel Van Epp (Vancouver) and numerous nieces and nephews. Emma was born in
Saskatchewan on January 3, 1915. After high school she trained to become a
dental assistant and worked in a dentist's office in Saskatoon. Despite her
full preparations for a wedding to Carl, Emma had to postpone the ceremony
some four years during WWII while Carl served as a Major in the Canadian
Army in Europe. The happy day finally came on October 18, 1945. Carl's
training and skills in electronics took them to Algonquin Park in Ontario
after the war and, later, to Victoria where they also spent their retirement
years. Emma loved music and enjoyed playing her piano, reading and attending
meetings of the Women's Missionary Fellowship group. A memorial service to
celebrate Emma's life will be held on Monday, May 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at
Central Baptist Church, 833 Pandora Avenue, Victoria. In addition to her
home church, Central Baptist, Emma's favourite charities were the Victoria
Salvation Army, the Victoria SPCA and the Canadian Bible Society. For those
so wishing, donations to these organizations would be appreciated. Gifts of
flowers are gratefully declined. The family wishes to thank the staffs at
RJH, VGH, Juan de Fuca Home Support and Marion Templeton (Seniors Serving
Seniors) for their special care. Emma valued each caregiver very much.

GILBERT, Victor Alfred Passed away on Monday, May 21, 2007 in Victoria at
the age of 90 years. Victor was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on November 28,
1916 and resided in B.C. since 1948. He served in the R.C.A.F. from December
1940 to August 1945. He graduated from U.B.C. in "Applied Science Forestry".
Victor is survived by his niece, Ellawyn Stacey (and husband, Mark Stacey);
nephew, Michael Campbell and cousin, Ruth Deeks and their families. He was
predeceased by his brother in 2005 and by his sisters. He will fondly
remembered by his family and his close friends, the Stanicky family and
Victor's many other friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May
31, 2007 at 11:00 am in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver

GORMAN, Eleanor Jean (nee Andison) June 30, 1928 May 19, 2007 Eleanor passed
away at home surrounded by her family on May 19. Born in Montreal and
retiring to Victoria in 1990, she is survived by her devoted and loving
husband of 55 years, John; daughters Janet and Diane; sister Evelyn and
numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the nurses of PRT and
Home Care and to Joanne whose special care was so much appreciated. At

HALLS, James (Jim) McBride Passed away May 23, 2007 after a short and
courageous fight against cancer. He leaves to remember him always, his
loving family, daughters, Tracy (Steve) Boulter, Alexandrea Halls (Andy
Wade); and the two loves of his life, his grandchildren Madison and Reid
Boulter. Predeceased by his parents Olive and JS Halls, Jim lives on in the
hearts of Linda Halls, his brothers, Norm, Dave, and Steve Halls, his
sisters Lois Clarke, Wendy Stewart, and Leslie Dremiel and all their
families. He touched the lives of special friends, Kate and Rob as well as
many other friends, neighbours, and fellow members and supporters at the
Duncan and Chemainus area AA groups, and the local Rock Hounds. Born in
Vancouver, BC on October 30, 1942, he was raised in Youbou, Lake Cowichan
and Victoria. Jim was a longtime resident of the Cowichan Valley. In his
lifetime, Jim was a member of the Royal Canadian Scottish Regiment as a
cadet and reservist; he spent many years involved with Kinsman, he was an
experienced sailor and became a traveler of Canada's North. He was a carver,
a painter, an eclectic collector and developed a love of First Nations and
Inuit Art. He could be found most Saturdays on the sidelines of a soccer
field, or field hockey pitch, watching his grandchildren play. Special
thanks to Dr. Manhas, Arnie, and all the nurses at Cowichan District
Hospital for the outstanding care and compassion they gave Jim. A
celebration of Jim's life will be held at Duncan United Church Hall, 246
Ingram Street, Duncan, BC on Saturday, May 26, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00
p.m. Please bring any stories or memorable moments to share, he had many and
we would love to hear them either for the first time, or laugh or cry
hearing them again. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer

HICKE, Douglas Clifford Passed away peacefully at Vic General Hospital on
May 19, 2007 at the age of 46. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 5, 1960.
Predeceased by his father, William C. Hicke. Survived by siblings Theresa
Sears, Greg Hicke, Gene Hicke, Murray Hicke, Glenn Hicke and, Michelle
McLaren. Lovingly missed and remembered by his mother, Aileen Alexander; his
brother, Murray and many friends throughout the Victoria area. A memorial

KELLER, Gail Marie (nee Loehndorf) December 19, 1943 May 21, 2007 It is with
great sadness that we announce the passing of Gail, a loving and dedicated
partner, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully
at Saanich Peninsula Hospital with family at her side. Gail is predeceased
by her parents, Albert and Julia Loehndorf; son Chad. She leaves behind her
cherished husband, John; daughters, Dana (Mark) and Dawn; grandchildren,
Hailey and Adam; sister Eileen (Ed); sister-in-law Bernice (Doug); nieces,
nephews and her loving extended family. Gail grew up in Keremeos, where she
met her future husband, John. They chose to enjoy their life together in
Sidney for the past 38 years. Upon retirement, they have enjoyed visiting
family and friends as they traveled across this nation. Her family extends
their gratitude and admiration to Dr. Cadger and staff; all the staff at
SPH; doctors and staff at Victoria Cancer Clinic; and the SPH Palliative
Care Unit who made Gail's last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation and/or SPH Palliative
Care Unit in Gail's memory. There will be a memorial mass at St. Elizabeth's
Catholic Church, 10030 Third St., Sidney on Saturday May 26th at 1 pm.

MORAES, Martha (nee Baker) October 28, 1911 May 15, 2007 Martha passed away
peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 15, 2007. Predeceased by her husband
Herman, mother and father, 2 brothers and a sister. She will be forever
remembered by her daughters, Shirley (Al) Bayes, Loretta (Gordon) Unrau,
also brother Bill Baker, 2 granddaughters, Linda (Murray) Brown, Brenda
(Garry) Shelton, 3 grandsons, Terry (Judy) Bayes, Randy (Shandel) Unrau,
Stewart (Tammy) Unrau, 18 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren,
2 nieces Dorothy (Jim) Adrian and Lorraine Baker, also cousins Jean Robinson
and Margaret (Sam) Russo of England. The family gives special thanks to all
the staff of Four All Seasons Retirement Home for their wonderful care of
our mother. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at the home of Brenda
Shelton, 1358 Adelaide St., Crofton, BC on Saturday, May 26 from 1-4 pm. In

PARLBY, Marshall Laxton Passed away peacefully at the Lodge At Broadmead on
May 21, 2007. Marshall was born on May 13, 1913 in Victoria, B.C. He is
survived by his daughters Barbara (Harvey) Dunahee, Jean (Ken) Jones, Louise
(Wayne) Alley; his sons William (Vicky), Frederick (Merle), Richard
(Barbara); also 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and 2
great-great grandchildren. He served time with the B.C. Coastal Service,
Merchant Navy, WW2 on the Mount Maxwell Park, E&N Railroad. He was a member
of the RCNA, MN Association, RCL Branch #172 and Seniors Group. A Memorial
Service will be held on Monday, May 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian
Legion #172 , 622 Admirals Road, Esquimalt. In lieu of flowers, donations in

Then on joyous flying feet they come racing to me madly, and I catch them

21, 2007. She is survived by her mother, Lorna; brother, Ian; two sisters,

SHAND, Douglas Shand, Douglas John Lovat passed away surrounded by his
family on May 23, 2007 in Victoria, BC. Left to mourn his passing: his wife
of 42 years, Donna; daughters Debbie (Michel) Eglsaer and Laurie (Orrin)
Nesdoly; grandchildren Nicole, Emily, Niko and Trent and brother Bill. Doug
enjoyed his time with his children and grandchildren. He was a committed
Shriner who valued his role as hospital representative for the Shrine. He
will be missed by his friends at the Royal Oak Tim Hortons as well as those
who shared his interest for amateur radio. Memorial Service will be held at

SIMPSON, Joan Beatrice (nee Gourlay) Joan of Maple Bay, born September 16,
1916 in Vancouver, B.C., passed away May 13, 2007 in her 91st year. Mom
loved her years in West Vancouver when younger, and had a love of the B.C.
coast all her life. She lived many years near the ocean and boating was dear
to her heart. She was a self-reliant person with a very positive outlook who
enjoyed classical music and art. She also had a great love of nature but her
real passion was her beloved garden. She will be sadly missed by daughters:
Rosalind (Edward LeRoy) Jordan, Juliet Foster, Janet Foster; her sister,
Betty Bibbs (Herbert); nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donations, if desired,
